General Information
Some recent opportunities have allowed me to expand my services to include the creation and maintenance of websites for political candidates.
Candidate websites differ in a couple of ways from the typical business or nonprofit site. For one thing, they tend to not be permanent; their lifespan is usually tied to the length of a campaign. They are also generally very time-sensitive. Campaign websites must always be up-to-date, and there is no margin for error in terms of accuracy.
Campaign websites must be attractive, easy to use, accessible to the widest range of potential visitors, and communicate very clearly the candidate's agenda. While these attributes are important for any website, they take on additional significance within the context of a political campaign, where first impressions may irrevocably decide voter stances.
I have an eye for detail and a breadth of experience that allows me to become not just a contractor, but part of the campaign team, to the extent the campaign is comfortable. I am accustomed to working with political and media consultants, and understand the importance of building a campaign website that supports and builds on the other campaign material.
Self-Imposed Guidelines
In order to ensure my effectiveness in this area, I adhere strictly to some guidelines regarding the acceptance of political campaign website projects.
- I will not accept a project for more than one candidate in a given election. I wish to avoid even the appearance of a conflict of interest, and I understand the importance of confidentiality during a campaign.
- I will not accept a project for a candidate whose views on certain issues differ from mine. This will vary depending on the election, but in no event will I work for a candidate who is not pro-life (even if his or her stance on abortion is not a campaign issue). In general, I tend to be conservative and libertarian in my political leanings, but I'll be happy to discuss this further if you have questions.
- I will not accept a project if I feel that my other workload during the campaign will prevent me from providing immediate service for site updates. As a goal, I want to be able to give a campaign one-hour-or-less turnaround in requested updates to the site, thus ensuring that it always contains the most up-to-date information.
Pricing Guidelines
Most campaign websites naturally have the same general content: candidate bio, discussion of issues, links to press releases and other news, pages for volunteering and/or contributing, etc. For this standard scope, the fee for construction will range from $500 to $1,000. This fee will also include some amount of maintenance, to be agreed-to upfront.
Some local campaigns may not require a full-scope site, and fees will be reduced accordingly. Please do not hesitate to contact me to discuss specifics.
