This just in from the Wall Street Journal:

Cingular Wireless and AT&T Wireless Services Inc. are in talks over a possible merger or acquisition that could jumpstart the long-awaited consolidation of the wireless industry, people familiar with the situation say.

I'm sure that if this takes place, Cingular's service center in Midland will actually be enlarged to accommodate the new customer base. After all, who ever heard of a merger causing companies to close major offices in Midland? The very concept is laughable.

Hmmm. I don't hear any laughter out there.

As long as my Cingular rates don't go up.....and they fix the damned dead spot at our Linaka wells east of Andrews I say more power to them.
