And the Winner is...
The Newfoundland has just been named Best in Show at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. (We were rooting for the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, a great little dog with the added attraction being that we think Abbye has some Corgi in her bloodline.)
The Newfie is a great dog, though, and a crowd fave. Can't argue with that choice! (Abbye, however, was unimpressed.)
Spoken like a true Big Gold Dog owner.
I think I heard them say tonight that a Golden has never won Best in Show at Westminster. That's hard to believe. I may have to research the veracity of that claim...
Posted by: Eric at February 10, 2004 10:43 PMIt's too popular with the masses. Those AKC people are dog snobs. Don't you know that? ;-)
I can't believe I missed it - I thought it was on next week.
*pout*
Posted by: jen at February 11, 2004 03:37 PMJen, if you're really disappointed, you can order the show on DVD from the Westminster Kennel Club's website (well, it actually comes from the USA Network's website, but the link is on the WKC's site).
The dates for 2005 are 2/14 & 15. You are officially alerted! ;-)
Posted by: Eric at February 11, 2004 04:19 PMI'm not that disappointed - especially since I already know who got Best in Show. But I will mark my calendar for next year! Thanks!

It's a travesty! Golden Retrievers have been getting short changed regularly. I believe it's because everyone knows that they are the most beautiful, loyal and intelligent breed and so not to show their obvious favoritism, they have to award the prize to dogs of lesser breeds.
