OK...everyone can take a breath now...

I see that Randy Quisenberry has been announced as the new head football coach at Midland Lee, coming back down I-20 from Abilene Cooper.

Boy, that's a relief. We can now go back to covering such minor issues as the War Against Terrorism and the Presidential Election.

I'm waiting for the day our local paper runs a series of profiles on teachers being considered to fill a vacancy in the math department at one of our high schools.

Shyeah, like that would happen...

Hmm. We don't even run front page articles on candidates seeking a local office (which we get to vote on), but we do for a high school coach (which we don't get to vote on). I think the MRT is desperate for an increase in readership. Next time you are driving on Sunday, look at a busy intersection of town, such as the Loop and Midland Drive. You will see, what seems to have started 2 weeks ago, teenagers in bright orange vests selling the paper. That's why I think the MRT is DESPERATE for readers.

I, in fact, fired off a "friendly" email to Gary Ott about this subject. No reply.....yet. And I sometimes have a cup of coffee with Publisher Charlie Spence at JoJo's cafe in downtown Midland, where I manage to get in a slightly snide remark or two about things like this.

But.... the paper does things like this, because unfortunately, there is a significant portion of the local populace who does think that this is the biggest news story around.
