Social Butterflies

Busy, busy, busy...our social calendar this weekend is full to the bursting point, and I know you're dying for the details.

On Saturday we're taking my father-in-law to the CAF AirSho, one of the premier events of its kind in the world. As usual, this year's show will feature over 100 WWII vintage aircraft in display on the ground and in the air.

We don't make this show every year, but it's always a treat, and even when we don't go, we still get to enjoy the spectacle as our backyard is in the flight path for many of the aircraft as they circle back to the airport for another run. The sound of those old piston-driven engines will send chills down your spine, regardless of how many times you've heard them.

But before the AirSho, tonight in fact, we're attending a stand-up comic show at the Yucca Theater. The featured comedian is Charles Marshall, who, according to his website, is "without a doubt one of the funniest and most original Christian comedians performing today." I'd have to say that he's probably not facing a huge base of competition, but it still should be fun.

Then tomorrow, following the AirSho, we've got a Sunday School party on the calendar. This one's a potluck dinner affair, which always means much good food. Too much good food. Our parties tend to be a bit on the raucous side, and usually end up with impromptu musical performances by some of our gifted ex-rocker guitarists who are equally at home with Led Zep, Bob Wills or Darlene Zschech. We also have one member who does a mean Elvis impression, which is even more remarkable when you consider that she's a woman.

Somewhere in amongst all of that we'll try to squeeze in our standing Saturday morning breakfast with good friends, and a pre-concert Thai dinner tonight with other friends.

So, if blogging seems a little light this weekend (especially compared to yesterday's bloatfest), you'll know why. Perhaps I'll be able to share some warbird photos with you next week. But even if I don't, Wallace has you covered, as he's got his own site devoted to the AirSho. He's also playing an official role in the weekend affair, so don't look for much blogging at Streams, either.
