Real Time News Non-Existent
Update 2 (10:05 pm): According to KWES-TV, the plane was a C-60 Lodestar, a WWII vintage transport, and was part of the CAF AirSho this weekend. All five passengers escaped without injury.
According to the linked website, only 10-15 of these planes are still on record as being airworthy in the US. That number is now 9-14, unfortunately.
Update (8:45 pm): I now understand that the airplane accident did not involve one of the CAF planes, and that there were no fatalities. Apparently, a private twin-engined airplane was taking off from MAF following the AirSho, experienced some mechanical problems and fell back on the runway, catching fire. Without knowing any additional details, it sounds like this was a close call but with an overall good outcome.
Still nothing online, AFAIK.
We just got a phone call from someone who got a phone call from someone who said that there was a plane crash at the AirSho this afternoon. I'm sure we'll find something out when the local news finally runs, but is it too much to ask for ANY of the local newsguys to put something on their websites as soon as they know it?
I checked all three TV station sites plus the local newspaper's site and saw nothing.
What's the point of having the capability of providing real-time news coverage if you don't know how/think to use it?
[Of course, if this report turns out to be false, well, then, never mind.]
Wallace, I suspect that at least one of the local stations has come to the same conclusion. I don't feel comfortable disclosing all the details, but it appears that the station is going to "repurpose" its website in order to provide more responsive local news coverage.
More competition for bloggers? I sincerely hope so; it's good for everyone!
Posted by: Eric at October 3, 2004 09:51 PMAround 2nd week of September, 2004, a noisy (white at bottom) airplane was flying west, parallel and over Cuthbert Street headed towards the airport.
Time was 10:16 PM EVENING. IT HAD NO LIGHTS AT ALL!!! NO HEADLIGHTS NO RED OR GREEN LIGHTS. Isn't this a recipe for a potential collision with some other plane right over the city? I don't think the pilots of one plane can hear the noise of another airplane, can they?
I don't think it is a good idea allowing these flying junks to be flying over the city of Midland or city of Odessa. If they want to do their flying, do it out there, far away where there are no houses!!!

I brought the subject of MyWestTexas.Com up during my Blog interview weeks ago. I suggested, among other things, that it was worthless as far as retrieving current news. Yes, I believe I did say worthless.
