RSS: "Content Triage"
As each day passes, my comfort with and reliance on RSS feeds grows stronger. I'm wasting less time checking on sites (blogs, primarily) which haven't been updated, and more importantly, I'm reading new updates in a much more timely fashion. In fact, I'm finding that I'm neglecting -- however unintentionally -- those blogs without RSS feeds. I still get around to them, but probably not daily and sometimes not even weekly.
If you're still on the fence about (1) adding an RSS feed to your site, or (2) using RSS to keep track of your favorite sites, I recommend Joshua Porter's excellent summarization of why all the cool kids are using it.
And if you're skittish about the potential investment in news reader software, and you're perceptive and charming enough to have switched to Firefox, then you have a free fully-functional reader named Sage just waiting to be installed and put to work!
This is going to sound like a daft question but....Do I have a RSS Feed?
Posted by: Rachel at December 1, 2004 02:50 PMRachel, your question isn't daft at all. But, unfortunately, you don't have an RSS feed on your blog. It's not your fault. As far as I know, Blogger doesn't provide that capability on its free accounts; I think it's only available on Blogger Pro.
There may be some 3rd party add-on solutions (like FeedBurner) but I don't have any idea about how effective or easy to install and use they might be.
But don't feel badly...I won't forget you! ;-)
Posted by: Eric at December 1, 2004 03:03 PMI tried NetNewsWire, but only use it for updating news sites occasionally. I actually like scanning the blogroll and visiting sites. Of course, now that NNW has a built in browser to pull up websites or stories that are interesting, I might try it again.
