You can't teach a Peacock new tricks, after all
What was I thinking? Idiot! I mean, just because the election was over, just because Katie was on vacation, just because Matt was at the helm (get it?), just because the focus was on an international disaster of biblical proportions...I thought I could once again watch "The Today Show" without fear of mindless and incessant Bush-bashing.
Boy, was I wrong.
Laurer headed up a segment this morning wherein he and a BBC correspondent (yeah...that was Warning Sign #1) and an "NBC News Analyst" (Warning Sign #2) engaged in a group-grope over the President's alarming, disgusting and callous absence of public sackcloth and ashes over the Asian tsunami disaster. I'm sure they eventually worked themselves into enough of a frenzy to blame the tsunami -- if not the earthquake itself -- on Bush (or Rove, at the very least).
I wouldn't know, as I pushed away from the breakfast table, walked over and switched the TV to Fox. The Peacock won't learn any lessons, but at least one Fire Ant has.
Apparently Laurer and the gang have chosen to ignore the $35 million in emergency relief aid the Bush administration has pledged to send the affected countries.
They're also choosing not to mention that's more than the contributions of the entire EU member nations put together.
I once remember Dan Rather (smirk) explaining to his viewers that a news anchor's job wasn't just to report the news but also to "put it in perspective".
It's revealing (if not surprising) to see the perspective NBC is providing.

Apparently, if he's not sitting at his desk writing out the relief checks, signing them, putting the postage on the envelopes and walking them to the mailbox, then he's shirking his responsibilities.

Eric, I work at an NBC-affiliated television station, but I'm vacationing this week ... so, when I have been watching TV, most of my viewing has been "Monster House," "007 Days of Christmas," Premiereship Soccer matches, and a bunch of DVDs we found in our stockings.
