Free iTunes Album

From MacWorld's Mac 911 Weblog:

Apple's offering 13 free songs to iTunes Music Store customers in a collection called the iTunes New Music Sampler Universal Motown Edition. What's that, you've not seen it? If not, you either don't have a new iPod or don't know the URL to get it.

iTunes can detect when a newly formatted iPod is connected to a PC or Mac. Because new iPods arrive in this state, those who connect a virgin iPod to their computer are taken to the iTunes Music Store where the offer appears at the top of the page in iTunes. These folks are asked to create an iTMS account and, once that account has been put in place, they can download the music.

But existing iTunes Music Store Customers with iPods chockfull of music can have the tunes as well. To get them, simply click this link: http://click.macworld.email-publisher.com/maac3MsabddbebV5NfDb/ . iTunes will open and display the page devoted to this free album. Click the Get Album button and the music will be yours.

I just downloaded the 13-track album, featuring songs by Razorlight, Brie Larson, Teitur, Miri Ben-Ari and, um, Michael McDonald. But, hey...it's free!

Um, are any of the songs worth the download? Even free, I wonder…

Dan, I'm somewhat embarrassed to admit that I have yet to listen to the songs I downloaded. With a 40gb iPod, I tend to just throw junk on there and sort through it later...much later, sometimes. And none of them have yet come up in shuffle play mode.

Even if I had listened to them, though, I couldn't tell you if they're worth your download time, since I don't know your taste in music.
