If you join the PBA do you have to buy your shoes or can you rent them?
Deb Thompson over at Write Lightning alerts us to formation of the inevitable but nevertheless sadly scary Professional Bloggers Association.
Add me to the list of those who (1) cringe at the idea of a PBA and (2) regret deeply the fact that I didn't think of it. Obviously, somebody is gonna make some money before this is over.
OTOH, this development is starting to make CUBS look pretty appealing to those of us for whom the appellation "professional blogger" rates right up there with "professional high colonic installer."
Technorati tags: coalition of unpaid bloggers; professional bloggers association
To continue Mr. Freen's thread...
I've linked to each of these folks in a previous post, so didn't take time to do it here. Now the hard work of forming up this association begins. My thanks to all who felt I could handle the task of providing leadership.
(of course, that's my emphasis in there)
I take that to be an indication of this group's potential effectiveness. Adding hyperlinks - more typing! - is too much work for the new leader of a group of professional bloggers. And "the hard work" has not yet begun!
If typing
[ctrl-c]a href='[ctrl-v]'isn't worth the time to this person, then organizing a group of disparate people under a new banner will be quite difficult, indeed. Posted by: bb at January 21, 2005 06:52 AM
...but if they provide shoes - multi-colored bowling shoes - I would consider re-starting my own blog and joining up just for that benefit.
Posted by: bb at January 21, 2005 06:54 AMGood point...most orgs will give (or sell) you a t-shirt, but nobody's giving out really good bowling shoes.
I'd be a tiny bit more impressed by the PBA if they even had their own domain name. I do find that someone anonymously registered professionalbloggers.org on 12/31/04, but it just has the generic GoDaddy "coming soon" page.
Perhaps they can't agree on which blogging software to use.
Posted by: Eric at January 21, 2005 08:32 AMHey Eric,
Sorry I am late on the gun here but did you happen to post about the Technorati Tags and how you are using them?
Actually, Shannon, I'm the one who's late. Apparently, Technorati tags have been around a while, but I just found out about them last week.
If you click on one of the tags, you'll see how they work. And here's the page that explains how to use them in a post.
They're just another way of allowing people who are interested in a particular topic to find related information about that topic. Technorati is simply extending its role as an aggregator of information with this new taxonomy.

There's bound to be a backlash against them. Starting with the fact they're a self-appointed credentialing agency trying to invent so-called "professional" standards where there were none before.
Maybe proof reading the post should be one of them.
"However, without attempting to sound high-minded or self-congratulatory, one thing know is that I have something important to do --
Isn't he missing an "I" in that sentence? ...as in, "one thing I know is..."?
Well, they are calling themselves the Professional Blogger's Association. No excuse for that sort of unforgivable sloppiness from professionals eh? Especially the professionals who are going to be telling everyone else how to blog.
Gotta love that MP3. There's nothing in it he couldn't have typed out. But it's a (respectful pause) media file so it must be special.
