The Word, Aloud...

There is great value in listening to the Word read aloud in huge long broad sweeps of narrative. We usually study verses and short passages in church, but I think we also need to dive into the full length of the text. That was the plan when several of us met on Saturday before Easter Sunday to read our way through all four gospels.

Thus begins fellow Midlander Berry Simpson's account of his first encounter with Lecto Divina, "...an ancient worship practice; it means to read aloud a passage from the Word of God, reflect on what you've heard, rest and meditate and respond to what God is saying to you through His Word."

I commend Berry and his fellow worshippers for making this kind of commitment to know God better. Who says you can't teach a Southern Baptist new tricks?

It's good to see Mr. Simpson back online.

This sounds wonderful. Before I became a Southern Baptist, the church I attended had all night services on New Year's Eve. But something like this would be a wonderful experience to start the New Year. I think I'll discuss it with our minister. Thanks, Eric.
