Stop me before I download again!

I just received an email informing me that Lesley Gore is releasing a new album. It's mostly new music, but it also has "re-imagined" versions of "You Don't Own Me" and "Out Here on My Own."

Hearing this news sparked high school-vintage memories, and one thing led to another and I found myself on the iTunes Music Store with sixteen dollars and change burning a hole in that little window on my PowerBook screen.

I downloaded a half dozen of Lesley's tunes, then started clicking links and before I knew it, I'd also bought music from George Strait, Marty Robbins, The Chiffons, The Cowsills, Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66, Hank Williams, Jr. and the Angels. My ITMS balance now sits at $0.23.

All because Lesley Gore has a new album coming out soon.

I knew that I couldn't be the only Lesley Gore fan still around and kicking.

But don't sell downloading short. 30 year old vinyl can hold a candle to clean, digital AAC format!

hmm, don't know about that. If you have a nice well-cared for vinyl and some killer speakers, THAT is rock-out time, baby!

Anyone else remember when quad stereo was all the thing, and went out and bought the Don McLean album with the now-classic American Pie song on it and listened to it over and over until you had memorized the entire lyrics then sang them at the top of your lungs with the windows rolled down at a red-light on Camp Bowlie Blvd. doin' "the drag" on a warm Saturday night, the sound of the bricked street clicking nicely as the wheels of your blue Fiat Spyder convertible sped over them, all the while knowing your blonde hair was blowing in the wind like Farrah's? Didya? Huh? Didya?

I still have all my Gore vinyl. (Incidentally, the CD release of Golden Hits has a pre-release version of "Look of Love", missing some background vocals and percussion overdubs, and noticeably slower: the version on the actual vinyl LP is the correct hit version.)

And "all," in this context, extends to the middle 1970s, when she reunited with producer Quincy Jones (who did her first hits) for a one-shot album for A&M.

Pattie, stop, stop you're breaking my heart.

Tom Waits album, Heart of Saturday Night comes almost as close as you did to ginning up old images. I won't describe them. WOW! Thanks.
