Michael James Reed, aka Bunker Mulligan, 1953-2005
The blogging community and Texas bloggers in particular have lost a friend as we learned that Mike Reed died of an apparent heart attack last Friday.
I didn't know Mike except through his blogging, and that's my loss. He seemed to be the "real deal," unfailingly polite, kind, generous, wise and witty. His primary blog, Bunker Mulligan, was also his nom de blog, but he was also the founder of Texas Bloggers, a "community blog" for those of us residing in this great state.
I'm unqualified to give Mike a worthy tribute, but the least I can do is point you to some of the ever-increasing number that are now appearing online. Liz (aka Cowtown Pattie) was the first to email me about Mike's passing; here's her post. Fellow Midland blogging pal Wallace was a regular correspondent with Mike, and here's his tribute over at Streams. And here's his family's posting on Texas Bloggers.
Note that the last post contains information about his memorial services, and how we can honor his memory:
I hope the blogging community, especially those of the Texas persuasion, will be generous in helping to support Homes For Our Troops, as a way of honoring Mike and expressing tangible support for his family.
...I may try and go to his services in San Antonio.
Wallace, I'm sure his family would appreciate your presence.

I could not have said it better nor agree more. Mike was the quintessential good blogger, but more importantly a good father and husband and lover of the American way. His phone calls to me in the hospital after I got home last December were inspirational to say the least. Life's sad irony, Mike's heart attack and passing, are not lost on me after my experience. I have thought of Mike all day today and the first question Julie asked me this evening on the phone from London was, "have you heard anymore about Mike's passing and his family". Julie gets home on Thursday, and with her blessing [which I expect] I may try and go to his services in San Antonio. God Bless Him.
