Picking on the Paper

From a story in today's local newspaper about growing old:

For some Midlanders like Roberts in their late 90s, late 80s, and even centurions...

Fair enough. A real Roman centurion definitely qualifies as a "senior citizen," by a margin of a more than a few centuries. I simply didn't realize we had any of them in Midland.

And from the real estate section, in a description of the "home of the week":

The front bedroom is slightly unique, with enormous walk-in closet...

The writer is obviously quite careful to avoid the appearance of exaggeration. We wouldn't want anyone to think that we're declaring that room to be absolutely unique.

Hail, Ericus Maximus, Commander of the Fire Ant Legions!

I suspect the word they were looking for was "centenarian" ... the same root, but definitely a different and exclusive branch of the shrub that grew from that root.

The real estate industry is beset with truth in advertising rules. This Realtor© is just trying to avoid a lawsuit, possibly from a irate centurion.

From what I've seen in the movies, Wallace, I'd watch my grammar when trying to avoid irate centurions. They're sticklers.
