Gazette Reader Gets Good Press
I wanted to draw attention to Jimmy Patterson's profile of Gazette reader/commenter Janie Snelson in today's MRT. Janie's list of volunteer activities is long and laudable, and it's the abundance of folks like her that make Midland a great place to live.
Janie's a Halliburton employee, and if you'll permit me a bit of editorializing, whenever I see those ridiculous protestors slamming that company, I think of two things: first, how ignorant they are, and second, how their actions show disrespect to the thousands of employees like Janie who are not only professional in the way they go about their work, but compassionate and generous in the way they live their lives.
She and husband Steve are truly two of the Good Guys in west Texas.
Technorati tag: Halliburton
Janie, this is a sad fact of life for anyone employed in the "awl bidness," and it's nothing new. I can remember getting corporate memos back in the 70s giving us advice for dealing with picketers, bomb threats and other nasty social reactions to the Arab oil embargo and gasoline lines. There's been more than once that I voiced silent agreement with the bumper sticker that read "let 'em freeze in the dark."
But, as you so aptly point out, the people who know the truth are also the ones we care most about.

Eric, thanks so much for your kind comments.
I'm blessed be a Halliburton employee! As blessed as I am to work for "The Flying H", once I travel outside the oilpatch-friendly areas of the US, I begin to receive "incoming" concerning ...my Halliburton card tagged onto my laptop...or my Halliburton logo embroidered on my jacket. As we rode the Metro in DC with any Halliburton markings - my family and I became fair game to any and all. Often I'm compelled to tell them "Research us yourself - don't believe everything you read or hear in the media!" I'll remind others..."Who cleans your toilet?" They'll give me the RCA dog look - tilted head, questioning gaze, and possibly answer with "I do." And I'll finish with "Do you know who cleans the soldiers' toilet in Iraq? Who cooks and cleans and does their laundry?" Again, the RCA dog look. The answer? Halliburton. I encourage them to check it out themselves - or better yet, ask a soldier!!
Again, all that to say - thank you for your kind comments. It's nice to know that someone out there knows the truth. You've blessed us beyond compare.
