Blogathon 2005 Update: Woo-Hoo!!!
Update to the update: A quick run-through of the current campaigns reveals that out of the 251 participants thus far, the Gazette's pledge total is third highest. This isn't a competition, of course, but that's pretty cool. What's also interesting is that the campaign that is leading the pack (with a tad under $2,000) is another Texas blog -- from Houston, in fact -- going by the endearing name of "This Blog is Full of Crap" (or "IFOC" to the cognoscenti). Way to go, Laurence!
...
I just dropped by to check on the Gazette's pledge total and was shocked and amazed to see that we've just topped the $1,000 mark! In fact, the pledge that put us over the top came from one of MLB's cousins now living in the Texas Hill Country (but his west Texas roots go deep).
That's wonderful news for the good folks over at Midland Fair Havens. The small pledges begin to add up to a total that can provide some significant help to an organization, and I thank each of you who have generously stepped forward.
Of course, it's not too late to make a pledge...not by a long shot. In fact, pledges will be taken until Tuesday, August 9, a few days after Blogathon, just to make sure everyone who wants to do so will have time to record their commitment. If you've already made a pledge (thanks again!), feel free to bug your friends to do the same. After all, how many of their magazine subscriptions and concert tickets and fundraising cookies have you bought from them over the years? ;-)
To reiterate, you can pledge online here, or you can email your pledge amount to me and I'll register it on your behalf.
You guys are great!
Note: There's an interesting article over at Think Magazine Online about some Malaysian bloggers who are participating in Saturday's event.
