Blogathon 2005: More thanks! New neighbors!

As we bring the eve of Blogathon eve to a close, the Gazette's pledge total stands (and proudly, at that) at a hair under $1,500.00. Thanks to the great newspaper coverage, pledges have come in today from people and companies who are unfamiliar to me, or whose email addresses I don't have, so I can't thank them personally. I'd like to do it here, if you'll indulge me: many thanks to KNW Oil & Gas, Kathleen, Elizabeth (possibly the smartest and cutest 13 year old on the planet) and Bill. Oh, and Phantastic Phyllis just emailed a pledge that put us over the $1,500 mark! All youse guys are great, and Midland Fair Havens will be the happy beneficiary of your generosity.

While we're in the neighborhood, take a gander at the official Blogathon webring graphic in the upper part of the right column. You can use the "Previous" and "Next" links to traverse the Blogathon landscape, which now consists of 261 blogs. The Gazette is happy to have as its webring neighbors "Another Day, Another Diaper" (on the "previous" side) and "Prepare to Meet Your Bakerina" (on the "next" side). I'd like to say that I hope the Gazette will prove to be a good neighbor to these lovely ladies, but I wouldn't count on it. I fear we'll turn out to be the Clark Griswalds of the Blogathon, and I hope they'll be content to avert their eyes and talk over the fence with their other, more tasteful neighbors.

Newspaper coverage.

I'm envious.

Way to go, though, and good for your charity.

Julie, I'm fortunate to live in a town where some of the prominent MSMers are also bloggers and can relate to things like this. They're also very generous with their coverage; in some places, those urges probably get trumped by petty feelings of jealousy. Of course, it helps that I'm about as non-threatening a "competitor" as one could hope for!

[And, in the interest of full disclosure, it probably didn't hurt anything that the author of the article is also on the board of the charity on whose behalf I'm blogging.]

Why, how nice to meet you! And please, Eric, don't worry. Some of my best friends are Griswalds. :)

I've just noticed that you are a pal of Cowtown Pattie as well! And here we are, neighbors in the webring! What a tiny, tiny world.

Good luck tomorrow. I will be checking in to see how you're doing, you bet!

Bakerina, glad you dropped in...it's always a pleasure to meet the neighbors, particularly when they're charming and -- most important -- forbearing!

What a tiny, tiny world.

'Course, the downside to that is that you constantly have to be on your best behavior, because you never know who's watching. Sorta like living in a small town, you know?

That Cowtown Pattie sure gets around, doesn't she? She's a veritable Magellen(a) of the blogosphere.

Thanks for the kind words...I'll try to drop by tomorrow and borrow a cup of sugar or something. ;-)

Newspaper coverage?

Hrm... I've been chatting with Dwight off and on about this. Still no follow-up from anyone.

Maybe your newspaper rocks and mine sucks?

Laurence, it's just harder to attract attention in Houston.

Maybe if you carjacked the mayor or something...

It's for a good cause; I think public sentiment would be on your side.

From a former Midlander to a current one and from a current blogger to another, good luck on your blogathon.

Jef, thanks for dropping by...and for the kind wishes! I think it will be fun, at least until I fall asleep and break my nose on my desk's frosted glass top, which looks really cool until it's smeared with blood...not that I'd know anything about that.

Can you tell that I'm already getting caffeinated in preparation for the event? Can you? Huh? Can you? ;-)

What do you mean "possibly"??

Posted by: Elizabeth at August 5, 2005 08:11 PM

What do you mean "possibly"??

Elizabeth, your dad put you up to that, didn't he? Did he also tell you that for $10, that "possibly" would have turned into a "probably," and for $25 it would have been a "definitely"? ;-)
