Divine Confirmation?

For some reason, I usually have a difficult time on Saturdays getting to my daily installment of the annual "Read Through the Bible" schedule. I guess I'm too easily distracted on weekends (although I generally get caught up on Sunday mornings).

But, I figured that I could spare a few minutes and go through today's readings, which are found in the New Testament book of Acts and the Old Testament book of Psalms. Imagine my delight when I read the following verses from the 27th chapter of Acts:

We made slow headway for many days and had difficulty arriving off Cnidus. When the wind did not allow us to hold our course, we sailed to the lee of Crete, opposite Salmone. We moved along the coast with difficulty and came to a place called Fair Havens, near the town of Lasea.

Well, there you have it: the Biblical origin of the name of the organization on behalf of which I'm blogging: Midland Fair Havens. If you know Paul's account of his journey to Rome, you remember that Fair Havens was the last port of comfort for him and his shipmates before they set out again and were ultimately shipwrecked on Malta. Midland Fair Havens is, likewise, a place of comfort and security for women and their children who have been tossed about, as it were, by the storms of life.

Forgive me for possibly reading too much into this, but this happy confluence of schedules seems to confirm that I picked the right folks to blog for!

That is very cool, Eric.

I just started reading through Acts - I've never read the whole book. I'm enjoying learning about the early Church.

Really? Oh, you probably have but just in assorted bits and pieces over the years. It's a book that really needs to be read from start to finish, since it's pretty much an historical account.
