Presenting: The Alaska Blog

Ever been to Alaska? I have, once. Got all the way up to the North Slope, in fact. Amazing state. Interesting people.

Here's a blog devoted to the state. It's also a Blogathon participant. Check it out...some great photography. As a state, Alaska is quite photogenic.

Tip o'the hat to my Welsh pal over at Morfablog, whose writing is finally beginning to make sense to me. He's a 'thoner, too, of course.

Hope that you are not feeling any ill effects from your little trip earlier. And, yes I have been to Alaska as well. Spent 2.5 years at Ft. Wainwright w/ the 6th ID Arctic Light. I was in one of the Infantry Bat.s 5/9 INF Manchus. It is very photogenic until you become part of the beautiful mountain scenery that everyone else is oohing and aahing about. And you see some weird stuff during those long winter nights when you have been up 24-48 hours plus.

Yeah, but did you ever encounter any rogue stools out in the wild? Those things can be wily...

Nope, got ambushed by a coffe table once though. My calves still twinge when I am near it.

Ah, the insidious coffee table: mild-mannered home decoration by day; vengeful, ruthless assailant by night. We hates 'em.

Yeah, a lot like the NYT.
So how are things in West Texas other than the stools turning against their owners? Which would have made for a much funnier Hichcock movie. Could have starred Dick Van Dyke.

Yeah, if I could have flipped over it like van Dyke did, I would have avoided the jab to the ribs. Of course, I'd probably have broken my neck, so I guess it's a wash.

Not much new in West Texas. Two-a-day football practice has started; all the TV stations have been covering that. School starts on Wednesday, the 17th; it's hard to believe that summer vacation is already over. We have been getting some rain...not widespread at any one time, but often enough and over enough area that it's actually looking pretty green around here. Lake levels are still pretty low, though.
