The Blogosphere at work: Katrina Reports

Another note: I'm closing comments on this post, so that well-meaning but desperate folks won't waste their time leaving requests for information here. The blog linked just below is the BEST place for those requests.

Note: If you are seeking information about family, friends or property in Slidell, please visit the blog linked below. I do not have access to any such information. I've brought the Slidell Hurricane Damage Blog to your attention in the hope that it will provide you with some answers, or at least a good place to leave questions.

The Slidell (LA) Hurricane Damage Blog is a great example of the value of the blogosphere. It's been created by Brian Oberkirch to help disseminate information about the status of that town following a pretty direct hit by Katrina. Since many residents evacuated ahead of the storm, and not everyone can easily get back in, this blog is one way those folks can quickly get specific reports about their specific neighborhoods.

I'm sure there are many such blogs now in operation, but I picked this one because Slidell is where Daniel Morris calls home, and he and his family are on my mind.

I am in Washington state, but my sister-in-law and her family are from Slidell. I can't get a hold of them (of course) and have yet to hear anything. My husband, Robert, and I are hoping to find out where they might be. They lived on Clipper Drive (near North Shore). I am guessing they are under water there...My sister-in-law works at the Slidell Memorial Hospital, and we are guessing her and her husband may have gone there to help. I haven't seen anything on the news to tell me how the Hospital faired in the storm. family I am looking for is Charles and kathy Chataignier. thanks for any assistance

Debbie, please make sure you go to the blog I linked to above and leave a comment. That's the most likely place you'll find the information you seek.

I did see one post that mentioned Slidell Memorial Hospital, but no confirming comments about the amount of flooding.

I hope your family is OK.

I am looking for my parents Theodore and Veronica Harris who live off of Mainegra Road in Slidell. I am also searching for my sister and brother-in-law Bruce and Lodie Javery. Of course I like everyone else have been unable to contact them. They chose to stay behind for various reasons and all of the family is worried. The news is totally focused on New Orleans, Biloxi, Gulfport and Mobile while Slidell took the brunt of the force. Any information on anything in Slidell would be greatly appreciated. General words about flooding and which areas were impacted the most would be great. Thanks and God Bless.

Brandan, please check the blog I linked to above...I have no information about Slidell here. I'm merely providing that link as a resource for people like you.

Again, I hope your family is fine.

Hi. My great Aunt and uncle live in Slidell and of course we can not get a hold of them. Their names are Linda and Lloyd Jackson. Linda also is know as "Dave" her goofy nickname. They are probably in their early 70's and could have lots of pets with them...birds and dogs. If anyone has any information please contact me.

Gladys, Kelley...I truly hope and pray that you'll find your family and friends to be in good shape...but this is not the place to leave requests for information. If they're from the Slidell area, PLEASE go to the Slidell Hurricane Damage Blog. That's where you'll be most likely to get some answers to your requests.
