Bible Knowledge Quiz

Via Bryan at Arguing With Signposts, a link to this 100-question quiz that purports to test your general knowledge about the Bible.

Bryan posted a very impressive score of 87; I managed to stumble across the finishing line with a 76...a passing grade, but hardly with honors. Unlike Bryan, my biggest stumbling block was the Gospels. I have difficulty remembering which content appears in which book. Always have; always will.

Aren't you glad that God doesn't grade us on how much we know...only on Who we know? ;-)

89.

But you know, if my wife took this test, we'd all be red faced with shame.

Well, you're just easily shamed then, because 89 doesn't leave a heck of a lot of room for improvement!

I am sort of surprised as it has been years since I fully read a bible or attended any sort of public worship. I have only managed to get totally through the bible twice and the new testament probably thrice. Scored 85%

Maybe all those years of GA's pounded more in my head than I knew...

Oh, and the sword drills...

GAs and "sword drills"...you might have to explain those things to the non-Baptist readers, Pattie.

But you guys really are putting me to shame. 85% is amazingly good, considering the difficulty -- or obscurity -- of many of the questions!

I know sword drills alright, though I've never drilled in one myself.

But I don't know what a GA is.

85

I'm sending this to my pastor friends. That'll be interesting.

As an erstwhile Lutheran and long time pentecostal. What is a sword drill?

Go back to Church CP. It's in there.

I don't attend church for many reasons, being a long time agnostic. However, I find the Bible fascinating reading.

Girls Auxillary - GA's. Sort of like religious Brownies...

Sword drills are tough, I'm here to tell ya! I never won any of them.

Oh, Sword drills:

The Bible is taught to be a sword of the Christian. The Word of God is a two-edged sword. Sword Drills are performed to assist children in becoming familiar with the placement of the Books of the Bible for ease of finding scripture when you want to look it up. Usually the Sunday school teacher would have everyone put their closed Bibles on the table ( or laps). Then she would call out a book name, a chapter, and a verse number. You try to be the first one to find it.

To expand on Patty's definition of GAs...it's a missions education organization. The primary goal is to teach girls about Christian missions and ministry. And, actually, "GA" now stands for "Girls in Action." The organization is under the umbrella of the Southern Baptist Women's Missionary Union (WMU).

The boys' counterpart is RAs -- Royal Ambassadors.

"Sword Drills" are now known as "Bible Drills" but the goal and approach is the same. Bible Drill actually has different age levels up through high school, with the exercises growing increasingly difficult. For example, a verse reference is given and the participants must quote the verse. If you ever want to feel humbled about your mastery of Scripture, you need to attend some of the advanced Bible Drill competitions.

Ahh, yes, the RA's!

Posted by: Cowtown Pattie at September 26, 2005 10:36 AM

Eric, your "76" doesn't look so bad ... from the perspective of my "70" :-(

And you'd think, since it IS a Presbyterian test ... I'd have aced it easily !!! :-)

Posted by: Jeff at September 26, 2005 11:10 AM

Jeff, I'm pretty sure you and I are the only ones who didn't make liberal use of the "hints links"! ;-)

Besides, doesn't being a Presbyterian exempt you from needing to know the arcane detais of the Bible? I mean, what's gonna happen is gonna happen, right? ;-)

Posted by: Eric at September 26, 2005 11:13 AM

Eric, I wish I KNEW, with some degreee of certainty, what was gonna happen ...

Reverend Jim Miles at First Prez-Fort Stockton once told me the Presbyterians had Seven Commandments and Three Strong Recommendations ... BUT HE WOULDN'T SAY WHICH WERE WHICH !!! ...

So, I KNOW I'm a sinner ... I just don't know HOW BAD a sinner I am! :-)

Fortunately, it doesn't matter, does it? There's more than enough grace for all of us.
