Firefox 1.0.7 & 1.5 Beta 1 Available

I'm a bit late but I also realize that I'm not alone in sometimes being slow to discover software updates...so if you haven't yet heard, release 1.0.7 of Firefox is now available for free download. This release addresses a number of security flaws, some of which are deemed to be critical.

And, for the more adventurous among you, Firefox 1.5 Beta 1 is now available for download. You can see what's new and improved in the release notes. As with any software in beta status, you should be prepared to deal with surprises, not all of them pleasant.

I was brave and went beta. No Greasemonkey yet -- not that I've ever used it.

Yeah, well...well...I thought about installing it, like, infinity ago!

Jim, you're my hero...unless, of course, the beta crashes and destroys your computer and creates a smoking crater where your house once stood, in which case you're just ineffably silly. ;-)

Haha! You guys are funny. Sometimes it is as entertaining to read your comments as it is your posts. :)

Well, at least you didn't write something like, "old people can be so amusing, sometimes." ;-)

Okay, so Beta Boy is Bete Boy (I don't know how to put the accente over the 'e' to make it french). I rolled back to 1.0.7 (which I had already been running for a few days) last night during the post devouring blogger fiasco, and now FFox is not working right. Ugh. It still works of course, and anything's better than IE but I'm having some hanging problems and some non-opening link problems that I didn't have before.

My advice, go with 1.0.7 and take a pass on the beta for now.

Jim, this is probably the last thing on your mind, but your feedback is precisely the sort of thing the Mozilla team wants to hear from beta testers. Have you passed it along to them?

They might also have some advice on how to get your machine back to pristine pre-beta installation condition.

Otherwise, I'm afraid there's only one solution: switch to a Mac.

Posted by: Eric at September 30, 2005 11:14 AM

Believe me, I'm tempted to switch. And the next windfall I get, I just might.

And yes, I will be passing the information on to Mozilla.
