"The Weather Man" Gets it Wrong?
Here's what Pulitzer-prize winning film critic Joe Morgenstern has to say about Nicholas Cage's new movie, coming today to a megaplex near you:
"Free of dangerously entertaining side effects." Heh.
I don't always agree with Joe's take on movies, but I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on this one.
Technorati tag: The Weather Man
Retire? Just when he's finally getting that furrowed-brow, brooding, depressed look perfected? Who would we turn to for that in his absence?
Well, I guess there's always William Macy.
Posted by: Eric at October 28, 2005 08:43 AMThe difference between the two is Macy can act.
Posted by: Jim at October 28, 2005 11:56 AMWell, I think that's being a bit unfair to Cage. I think he's capable of turning in some outstanding performances ("Matchstick Men" and "Guarding Tess" come to mind) in the right movies. I also think he does well in action movies ("Con Air" and "The Rock" being two examples).
I do agree that Macy can generally act circles around him...but that's no shame. He can out-act about 95% of Hollywood.
Posted by: Eric at October 28, 2005 12:13 PM"He" being Bill Macy, in that last sentence. Just for clarification.
Posted by: Eric at October 28, 2005 12:13 PMUnfair? So? I'm a blogger. I'm part of a 20 million person lynch mob. Blogging is how unfair gets done. :-D
... pay no attention to the man behind that comment. He's punchy after a week of fourteen hour workdays.
Posted by: Jim at October 28, 2005 01:09 PMHey, man, I'm just trying to protect you from a restraining order from Cage's legal eagles.
But, if it comes, your posse will back you up. Unless William Macy tells us otherwise.
And I posted that job notice for your benefit, amigo.
Posted by: Eric at October 28, 2005 01:18 PMIf Nicholas Cage is in a movie, it's either:
a) A downer.
b) Confusing in its artiness
Exceptions? Hmm. Con Air. National Treasure. That movie he played the airhead California valley guy in.
Posted by: Julie at October 29, 2005 10:16 PM"Gone in 60 Seconds" was pretty straightforward, but that may have been before his artsy gene got inflamed.

When will Nicholas Cage retire?
