The Ant turns Three

Three years ago on this date, at 9:07 a.m., the Fire Ant Gazette wheezed its first soggy lungful of blogosphere.

And 2,100 entries later, the lame metaphors continue unabated.

Anyway, I would like to humbly thank each of you who stop by here on occasion, for whatever purpose, because you're the only reason the Gazette exists.

Now...where's the cake?

Comments

Hey, the fireant gazette shares the same birthday as Elizabeth, and Kevin shares the same birthday as MLB. We're celebrating Elizabeth's bday Saturday night with a house full of 7th grade girls. You are welcome to come have cake with us! We may need the reinforcements....

OK, now you're just weirding me out. [Twilight Zone theme plays in background]

You are welcome to come have cake with us!

OK, let me just check my calendar. Let's see...yep, just what I thought. I'm scheduled to go out and buy some hair on Saturday so I can spend Saturday night washing it. But, thanks anyway. ;-)

Happy birthday, Gazette! Check the freezer. MLB always has delightful treasures in there for you.

Posted by: phyllis Hilburn at November 8, 2005 09:20 AM

I did find any cake in the freezer, although the eight-year-old Girl Scout cookies look awfully tempting.

Posted by: Eric at November 8, 2005 09:28 AM

DIDN'T! DID NOT find any cake.

Wow. Maybe I need a vacation.

Happy Birthday, Blog(ger)!

Posted by: Rob at November 8, 2005 10:03 AM

Congratulations and many happy returns (Visits, that is. To your blog. By me and countless fans).

Posted by: Jim at November 8, 2005 11:55 AM

Thanks, Rob and Jim. With a professor and a preacher checking in, I know I have to be on my best behavior!

Posted by: Eric at November 8, 2005 12:04 PM

I too, want to add to the congratulations. The wit, humor, combined with deep insights to world events, philosophy, and theology just can’t be beat. No wonder you are so popular. What an inspiration to us all! Congratulations!!!

Posted by: Gene at November 8, 2005 12:42 PM

Gack...now you're making me blush...as well as applying pressure! Are you sure you have the right blog? ;-)

Posted by: Eric at November 8, 2005 12:48 PM

I second Gene's comments but must question the sanity of anyone who suffers arachnaphobia but hunts live rattlesnakes with the HOPE of making hatbands out of 'em...WITH HIS DATE! Just enough insanity to keep things fair and balanced, I guess. Some of your best posts are of the "content-free" variety. But it's good to know that we are sometimes wiser for having visited. Keep up the good reporting and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Posted by: Gwynne at November 8, 2005 01:27 PM

3 years huh? In dog years the gazette is really old.

Posted by: John Peter Smith at November 8, 2005 01:50 PM

Gwynne, I can only quote the immortal bard himself: "You may be right...I may be crazy, but it just may be a lunatic you're looking for." Anyway, thanks for the kind words and the encouragement. I'll do my best to remain true to my Content Free™ pledge, trusting that you'll forgive me when I occasionally slip up.

John, since Abbye is the main attraction around here, I guess there's a lot of truth to you comment.

Happy blogday, Eric!

Posted by: jen at November 8, 2005 02:46 PM

Thanks, Jen. And in more important things, I see that you guys are making big progress in your relentless march toward matrimony. The new digs sound great.

We're close enough to walk to Target also...but we never do. You can't carry enough stuff when you walk. ;-)

Posted by: Eric at November 8, 2005 02:53 PM

Billy Joel as Bard...the insanity continues. :-)

Posted by: Gwynne at November 8, 2005 02:57 PM

Congratulations Eric! Heres to many more years of blogging!

This is about when the senioritis kicks in, and you start with the greased pigs in the lunchroom and the boxes of super balls down the stairs during passing period, isn't it?

Time to brush up on the Javascript?

Seriously, though - I'm glad you've stuck with it so far.

Posted by: Brian at November 8, 2005 05:22 PM

Rachel, thanks...having folks like you along will make it a much more enjoyable experience. ;-)

Brian, you've got me confused with a high school student, a level of maturity to which I can only aspire. And, yes, I'm going to brush up on the Javascript as soon as I quite playing with my LED dinosaur. (Oh, I just gave away an upcoming post.)

Posted by: Eric at November 8, 2005 05:25 PM

Yeah and hapy blogday.

Posted by: Christopher at November 8, 2005 08:08 PM

You might be in serious need of therapy if you remember the anniversary date AND the hour and minute...

So here's my Freudian contribution:

Hold out for chocolate cake, dude, and Happy Bloggie-versary!

Posted by: Cowtown Pattie at November 8, 2005 08:46 PM

Christopher, thanks for stopping by, amigo! ;-)

Pattie, I probably do need therapy, but it's not due to OCD over the blog. The Gazette's first post is just a few clicks away in the archive and it's date-stamped.

But I'm still holding out for chocolate. Thanks!

Posted by: Eric at November 8, 2005 08:51 PM

Yes, I clicked over just to confirm that date and time stamp. Boy, for a guy who's typically concise, that first post was, well, a tad long. Don't you think? ;-)

Posted by: Jim at November 8, 2005 09:40 PM

I was still searching for my...uh...pacing. Yeah, that's it. My pacing.

Still searching, btw.

Posted by: Eric at November 8, 2005 10:03 PM

Happy blogiversary, sir, and thanks for the continued good reading.

Posted by: Gunner at November 8, 2005 10:05 PM

Gunner, thanks a bunch...I do appreciate it!

Posted by: Eric at November 8, 2005 10:16 PM

You know what is strange? After I read your post, I decided to go check out when I started blogging, and guess what? It was November 8, 2002 as well! So uncanny...

Posted by: ern at November 9, 2005 12:07 AM

Hey, that makes us twins! Uh, sort of...it would have been the longest labor in the history of the universe, but still...

That's pretty cool, though. So, congratulations to you, as well!

Posted by: Eric at November 9, 2005 06:35 AM

Happy B-day Eric.

and thanks for your support
