Name the Movie
I'm falling pitifully short of my pledge to provide Content Free™ posts, so I hope this will help a bit in rehabilitating my reputation. Name the movie from which the following shot originates...and explain the context.

I think that's from "Mean Girls."
Context? Um, [Jeopardy music in a loop in my head] I got two guesses:
1. Her name starts with a K.
2. She is rooting for someone whose name starts with a K. Perhaps, the leader of the skank-pack.
I don't remember the names of the girls in the movie.
So, was I close?
Posted by: Isaac Schrödinger at November 17, 2005 02:46 PMIsaac, good job...you got the name of the movie right, anyway (Wallace is going to keep guessing "A Hard Day's Night" until I post something related to it). However, you need to re-rent the DVD to get the context (which is really the fun part of the screenshot).
We'll wait to see if anyone else remembers the specific scene.
Posted by: Eric at November 17, 2005 02:51 PMDidn't see Mean Girls but isn't that the same actress that Ringo laid down his coat for in A Hard Day's Night? (Wallace, you crack me up!)

Man, I was countin' on you, bro!
Posted by: Eric at November 17, 2005 03:47 PMI didn't see Mean Girls, either, but from the title, and from what I've gathered so far in the comments, I'll guess.
It's a setup shot for a gag based on the character's incorrect display of neckwear. Because only a dolt would wear a rhinestone 'K' backwards.
Or it's a setup shot for a gag based on some other character's incorrect belief that said neckwear is displayed incorrectly in the first place. Because only a dolt would wear a large rhinestone 'K' forwards.
I am assuming that the K is attached to a necklace too thin to be seen. If it's actually glued to the poor girl's chest, I'll have to make up some other vague-enough-to-be-almost-close guess.
Brian, you came that close [he said in his best Don Adams impersonation]...
OK, here's the scene. "K" is Karen's initial (doh). Karen is one of The Plastics, which sounds like a singing group but which is actually the Mean Girl clique whose popularity is directly proportional to how much everyone hates them because they're, well, perfect. More or less. Karen is the, um, slow one of the group (although that's not saying much). She thinks she's a psychic ("I've got, like, ESPN. My boobs can tell when it's going to rain. Well...they can tell when it's raining, usually."). But she really is sweet, and can't imagine anyone not loving her.
Anyway, she's getting ready for the big dance and, yes, those rhinestones are glued to her chest. But she's painstakingly applied them while standing in front of a mirror. After she finishes, she turns around with an expression of what can only be described as a complete sense of pride and satisfaction at her accomplishment, totally oblivious to the fact that the "K" is actually backwards.
I'm considering using a smaller version of that image in future posts as an editorial comment for people who appear to take pride in doing something really dumb. James Lileks uses his famous "disapproving Perry head" (a shot of Perry Mason) for a similar purpose, and I figured I'd stea...uh, borrow his idea.
[And speaking of borrowing ideas, you've given me one for a future post. A contest, in fact. With an actual prize and everything.]

The Beatles....."A Hard Days Night". This is the part where they see the backwards "K" on the girl's chest.
