Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Scoping Out Katrina Victims
ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition has had some really cool episodes and even though it sometimes seems like an hour-long commercial for Sears, I don't mind because I believe real people are getting real help.
I just learned via the Slidell (LA) Hurricane Damage Blog that the show's producers have solicited story ideas from that town for a potential episode. It sounds like they're planning several episodes focusing on different areas that were hit by the hurricanes (Katrina and Rita).
Interestingly, these special episodes will not involve rebuilding of any homes, but rather will spotlight different community-wide projects.
I do hope they'll reconsider and pick at least one home to rebuild. My nomination? Our blogging pal Daniel Morris over at From Behind the Wall of Sleep. Last we heard, he and his family were in line for a FEMA trailer, but I don't know if that actually came to pass.
Yeah, Ty really hit the big-time. I always figured what-her-face -- the cute chick that hosted TS, whose name I've already forgotten -- would be the one to get all the subsequent deals. But, other than a few Enterprise car rental commercials, I can't recall seeing her on TV.
Dang...what is her name? That's driving me crazy...

I saw they did something about Katrina during their Christmas special, where they visited a woman whose house they had rebuilt below New Orleans, and her house was remarkably relatively unscathed. But there was so much damage, they ended up taking new clothes in a variety of sizes to a huge shelter area and giving the clothes away, with First Lady Laura Bush.
I'm sure hoping they'll do some more with Katrina. But I can understand why they wouldn't rebuild any homes. How do you pick just one home in that kind of environment?
I'm like you. I don't mind the product placement, as the products are actually going to benefit people in real need. And it reminds me how fortunate I am, even with all my problems.
It's also funny because I saw that guy Ty Pennington on an old episode of "Trading Spaces," and it's interesting to see how he changed from the carpentry guy to the head of the remodeling angel squad.
