"Kong" Gonged; Hopeful "Halo"?
I see that Peter Jackson will attempt replenish the capital he accrued from LOTR and atone for King Kong by creating a movie version of the video game, Halo, due out next year. I wish him luck, but given the underwhelming results of past attempts to bring games to the big screen, I'd say he's facing an uphill battle.
We were never able to work up any enthusiasm for seeing King Kong, and it appears that it was just as well that we didn't, for Lileks pans it mightily for, among other things, its absence of logic (gee, ya think?). But he's a bit late to the lynching; Jen had already warned us to seek entertainment elsewhere.
OK, who here remembers Michael Cimino?

And as for an absence of logic... well, the original version of King Kong was an absolute logic fest, now wasn't it.
Haven't seen Kong but only because I was distracted by little stuff like a major career change. But "Halo?" Why? It's not even a very cool game. Maybe Jackson should tackle Myst instead. That would be cool.
Jim, I had that exact thought about "Myst" this morning as I was walking Abbye. I even figured that if anyone else glommed onto it, it would be you (knowing how "Mysti-fied" you are, and I mean that will all respect and affection ;-).
The downside would be a movie that lasted about 45 hours. With lots of Enya in the soundtrack.
Posted by: Eric at April 4, 2006 07:00 PMEnya contributed to the LOTR soundtrack, btw.
Think of all the actors they wouldn't have to pay if they did Myst! ;-)
