There goes the neighborhood...
...I can see it disappearing over the eastern horizon. I just checked The Weather Channel and we've got sustained winds at 33 mph, gusting to 41.
Did I mention blowing dust?
But, it could be worse. Off to the northwest a couple of hours, at Guadalupe Mountains National Park, the winds are 44 and gusting to 65; they're forecasting gusts of 80 mph before the day's over.
I'd hate to be driving a big rig to El Paso right about now. (Well, I'd hate to be doing that any time, but especially right now.)
Say, Jeff, didn't you used to have a blog? ;-)
Posted by: Eric at April 6, 2006 03:11 PMAh...OK...you do still have one. Glad to see it!
Posted by: Eric at April 6, 2006 03:12 PMIt's not nearly as bad going to El Paso via I-20 and I-10 as it is the scenic route through Kermit, Mentone, Orla and Guadalupe Pass. That 1,700 foot drop from the east side to the west side of the pass tends to channel the gusts straight into, and then right across, the paths of the traffic (when you're driving down a highway that has two windsock poles posted on the side of the road, you can be pretty sure they get some decent winds from time to time). But on a clear, calm day it's a great alternative to the main road, especially since they bumped the speed limit on most of the route up to 75 mph.
Posted by: John at April 6, 2006 07:04 PMYou ought to look at this stuff through rose colored...I mean, polarized sun glasses. Nasty!
Note to "Shameless Plug Alert" - the Celts (Spencer Bennett, for one) I've seen wear kilts around here could care less about the weather...last year at the ConocoPhillips Halliburton Bad Boy Blast, Spencer came and shot, adorned in a camoflauge shooting shirt, matching kilt, socks, and boots. It was about 33 degrees. He shot well, too!
Oh, yeah...
"Shameless Plug Alert of My Own" (and no, Eric, I don't have a blog...)
The 2006 ConocoPhillips Halliburton Bad Boy Blast (Serving those who protect and serve us!) will happen at Windwalker Farms on April 22, 2006 - we already have 400+ shooters, we're giving away lots of great guns, and all proceeds are going to our local Midland and Ector Co PDs and SOs...and y'all can wear kilts if'n ya wanna! Come on out!
Posted by: Janie at April 6, 2006 08:54 PMJanie, I was just giving Jeff a hard time because he hadn't updated his place since early March...although he now has a nice tartan-themed post up.
And feel free to leave any shameless plugs you wish. Heck, if you want to write up a full-fledged post I'll be happy to host it. I know they're always for good causes, and always interesting!

Thinking of going to El Paso today? ... Don't bother ... El Paso's coming to you! ...
A little humor there ... very little ...
Seriously, though ... I'm wondering what it's like on top of Guadalupe Peak ... WHOO! ...
