What's gotten into DP?

Dr. Pepper now has eight variations listed on its website, the latest of which is -- get this -- "Berries and Cream" in both regular and diet.

Where will it end? "Diet Papaya Mango Habaņero Choco-Vanilla Swirl Dr. Pepper with Just a Hint of Anise"?

That said, I must admit that the Diet B&C DP was actually pretty good. It has mild raspberry and vanilla flavorings in addition to the regular DP good stuff.

Diet Papaya Mango Habaņero Choco-Vanilla Swirl Dr. Pepper with Just a Hint of Anise

The anise would ruin it.

Yeah, well, try telling that to those know-it-all Corporate Flavor Mavens.

Jim is the only person I know who would drink the Habanero Dr. Pepper (or just leave out the "Dr" altogether...he drinks the stuff straight). Will there be vertical tastings of this stuff in the supermarkets? Cuz I'd hate to waste $3.33 on a 12-pack of DPMHCVSDPwJaHoA, only to find out it was the wrong year.

I'm with Jim, I think the anise would ruin it. Now maybe a little ginger would offset some of the pepper nicely.

Is the Berries and Cream actually different than the Cherry Vanilla? Or are they just trying rebrand since Diet Coke now comes with cherry vanilla? And maybe you can explain why they want to add cherry flavorings to a soda that is already cherry flavored? Cause I never did get that. :)

Gwynne, what's a vertical tasting? It sounds very acrobatic. But superior to a horizontal tasting. I, for one, wouldn't want to lay flat on a supermarket floor. Unless, of course, I could convince someone that I was swooning for lack of chocolate syrup.

Beth, we actually have both Berries & Cream and Cherry Vanilla DP (both in the diet version) in our fridge at this very moment (another sign of the impending Apocalypse, I believe), and I prefer the former to the latter. I do think the cherry vanilla market is saturated and DP is seeking to distance itself from the hoi-polloi. Perhaps the Ginger-Habaņero would do the trick.

Dagoba makes a dark chocolate (74%) bar with ginger crystals in it.

Just thought I'd share that.

The 74% I can dig, but I've never been a big fan of ginger.

Posted by: Eric at April 23, 2006 07:13 AM

Well they also make a 74% bar with chilis in it. No ginger.

LOL :-) This is why blogging is intrinsically worthwhile.

Adler would be mystified, no doubt.
