Public Service Announcement
Now that Cox Communications has completed the sale of its west Texas operations to Cebridge (soon to be known by the uninspiring name, "Suddenlink," which conjures up visions of car wrecks), its customers will be forced to change their email addresses.
For those of you who have been using esiegmu -at- cox dot net to send me email, please start using info -at- ericsiegmund dot com, effective immediately (although you can continue to use the old address for forwards of emails warning me about how Madeline Murray O'Hair is going to reach out from the grave and finally succeed in turning all the churches in America into brothels unless I sign an FCC petition). The old address won't go away for a few months, but I figure it's better to try to stay ahead of the curve. Plus, if you have a lot of Midland folks in your address book, you'll undoubtedly be making similar changes for them; just think of me as practice.
Thanks for your patience. In order to prevent this from happening again, I'll do my best to resist the temptation of selling my name to someone else. I can't make any promises, though.
Reagan, thanks for the offer but I already have a gmail address. I don't use it, however, due to Google's inability to convince me that I should trust it with access to my email and other personal data.
Posted by: Eric at May 9, 2006 11:07 AMWell the trust factor is an issue. I much prefer using my own domain, but something struck me about having the gmail.com address. I don't really use the full features of the service since I cannot access the web interface fully thanks to google's love for AJAX. So I just bring it in through pop3...some may call that cheating...I call it getting around the google access issue.
Posted by: Reagan at May 9, 2006 11:13 AMI have switched all my email over to mu google account, mainly because Yahoo's spam filter up and stopped working for me (they were trying to sell me the mail+ service).
I have been using it for month or two now and the only complaint I have is the (send as) tag when I use my email address of my personal domain. (i.e. shannon-at-hegele.us on behalf of atexan-at-gmail.com)
Other than that, all works well for me.
Posted by: shannon at May 9, 2006 12:52 PMI like my gmail account - right up until certain people send me emails mentioning Tupperware and Avon and now, all of the sudden, I have all these ads in my email for Tupperware and Avon.
Ahem. :)
Posted by: beth at May 9, 2006 01:20 PMIf it's any consolation, the folks to the west in Monahans, Kermit and Pecos who have been using high speed internet and e-mail services through Cebridge for the past several years also are going to have to change their e-mail adresses thanks to the company's decision to change it's name (and what market research company came up with Suddenlink? To me, it sounds like something you'd complain about, as in "I got a sudden link, and then my Internet was down again.")
Posted by: John at May 9, 2006 01:30 PMDuly amended in my address book!

I understand what you're having to do. This is why I have switched to gmail.com. My dad is also having to go through an e-mail address change but from grandecom.net to Cox since he and my mom are moving in July to a new house over in a new Grassland development. However, I saved him with a gmail.com invite...you want one Eric? I have 95 left .Consider it my own public service to decrease the effects of the ISP change virus.
