More WIT
The Washington Improv Theater (aka WIT) has a new entry in the 48 Hour Film Project, and it's pretty dang funny, in a junior high schoolish way (and, really, isn't that the best way?).
If you're on dialup, you might want to try the lo-res version of the seven minute film.
And if you're wondering why we care about WIT, you can get the story (complete with local connection) here.
I understand that the film is as yet untitled, so feel free to leave your suggestions in the comments. Who knows? Molly (the actress in the film) might stop by here and make you an honorary WIT, which beats a Fire Ant coaster any day.

Yeah, it's a pretty challenging competition in which teams have 48 hours to make a movie (hence the name). They are given the genre, a required element and a line that must be spoken in the script, and that's it.
WIT won a couple of awards in last year's competition. If you're a fan of "The Office," I recommend following the link in my post to see last year's submission...it's hilarious.
Posted by: Eric at May 9, 2006 05:05 PMWasn't there supposed to be a fire extinguisher in the film as a prop, or did I just miss seeing it?
Posted by: Cowtown Pattie at May 9, 2006 10:23 PMThank God it wasn't another "scary movie."
Posted by: Clarence at May 10, 2006 05:11 AMPattie, I don't remember seeing one either...I'll need to watch it again. But I have a hard time believing that they'd omit one of the main requirements of the competition.
Clarence, I'll bet they'd be happy to make the kind of money the Scary Movies have brought in! (Disclaimer: I've never seen any of them.)
Posted by: Eric at May 10, 2006 06:18 AMThe fire extinguisher magically appears on the counter when I turn around and all of the cabinet doors are open. There's another "Easter egg" in that scene, too -- if you look on the counter while I'm opening the fridge, you can see our trophy for last year's 48 Hour Film! As for titles, among the favorites right now are "The Unfrightening" and "The Haunterlings." Again, thanks for all of the support from our growing West Texas fan-base.
Posted by: Molly at May 10, 2006 09:50 AMAha! We're so focused on the open drawers that we never catch the fire extinguisher. Very subtle (hope the judges are more observant!)...
I'm definitely going to have to go back and look for the trophy...
As for "Tim Tate, gay glass designer"...I could have sworn I saw his name somewhere else -- on the 48HFP site, perhaps? -- so that's kind of an inside joke, too, I assume.
Thanks for stopping by, Molly; feel free to keep us up-to-date on what's going on with WIT!
Posted by: Eric at May 10, 2006 10:00 AMI watched this yesterday afternoon and had to show it again to hubby last night. What a hoot! I noticed between viewings that "The Haunterlings" title appeared on the title page. My thought on names was a word play on "An American Haunting" set to be realeased nationwide shortly:
"Another American Haunting?" or "An Other American Haunting?"
Great job, Molly!
I think the title has been officially designated as "Unfrightening." Tim Tate, gay glass sculptor, is actually a real glass sculptor in DC who made the beautiful trophies last year.
Just found out we're one of the movies in the "Best of DC" screening tomorow night. There are a bunch of films showing, but we're happy to have made the cut. Thanks for watching!
Boo.
Posted by: Molly at May 18, 2006 04:49 PMGood luck in the screening, Molly...you guys are bound to be a big hit!

Oooh - very clever! :) That was enjoyable - is it in a contest? In which case I hope it wins!
