Cool little Firefox tip

OK, I lied...I do have something, after all, and even though it's shamelessly "borrowed" from the current issue of MacWorld magazine, it's still something you might find useful.

This is a one trick pony kind of tip, but if you ever find the need to open a page that you just visited in a new tab, there's a shortcut to accomplish this. Command+click* on your browser's forward or back button (whichever leads to the page in question) and that page will display in a new tab.

When I first read this, I thought that it was neat but fairly useless...but I find that I'm starting to use it more and more. Perhaps you'll find it helpful as well.

*Well, that's the key on my Mac's keyboard; I don't know what the equivalent Windows key is called. But I'll bet you can figure it out.

Hmm..I just click the roller wheel to open a link in a new tab in Firefox -- not sure if I set it up to work that way or if it just worked that way - I switched over a long time ago.

I love tabbed browsing ...wish they'd let me install Firefox at work.

Beth, I didn't mean to imply that this is the only way to open a link in a new tab...it's simply a shortcut for creating a new tab for a previously visited page which you decide you want to view in a new one.

If that makes sense...

Ahhh...cool! I'll have to give it a go - I'm guessing it's the control key for us non-mac-y people.

BTW, I didn't think you were implying/saying/indicating that it was the only way to do it. I was just sharing how I do it. Cause everyone in the whole universe wanted to know that I click my mouse wheel. :) (Come on, you wanted to know, admit it!)

Well, I was afraid I hadn't been clear in my description, which wasn't the finest example of technical writing.

But, yes, mad props to you and your mouse wheel. ;-)

For Windows users, hold down the CTRL key and click for the same trick.

Great tips! Both Eric's and Beth's were new to me. My life is so much better for this. ;)

Ern, we're all about making lives better here at the Gazette. ;-)

That would, now that I think about it, make a great slogan for Mozilla: "Better living through Firefox"
