Congrats to a Gazette Reader!

We just noticed that regular Gazette commenter, Halliburton employee, and wickedly accurate shotgunner Janie Snelson was named "Board Member of the Year" for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Midland, Texas. With all she's got going on with her various volunteer efforts, I have no idea how she finds time to stop by here, but I'm glad she does.

Congratulations, Janie. It's folks like you who make west Texas such a great place to live!

Just zoomed into Tulsa after a solid afternoon of "waiting"...on delayed flights...got to the room and powered up the laptop to send some e-mails that absolutely positively have to be there overnight...logged into the vpn so trusty outlook could do it's work, (and by the way, pray for my bustin' claysmanship Monday...there are these funny things called trees up here that this West Texas gal isn't used to shooting around! We're shooting tomorrow at the Halliburton CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) Shoot in OKC)and hopped over to your blog to pass the time while outlook did so...and...
(is this THE absolutely longest run-on sentence ever"?)...

...Well..."Gawrsh!"

Thanks so much for the comments, Eric...and if I may I beg of you and your readers, another minute of your time??? PLEASE consider becoming a Big Brother or Big Sister!

BBBS is a great program, and all it takes is 4-7 hours per month of your time. Most "Littles" come from broken or single parent homes, some have parents that are incarcerated, there are all sorts of scenarios. My Little lives with his grandmother with 3 of his 5 siblings. He is the sweetest young man...yet when school is out, I lose him as a Little because he goes into 7th grade and because I serve on the board, I can only be a "school-based" Big. He needs a man in his life, that can take him to do things and spend time with him.

Midland is such a giving town money and volunteer-wise - in BBBS, lots of women in Midland volunteer as Bigs, but we are lacking MEN in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. (And I think this ratio is echoed in other towns as well.) So if y'all know of anyone (man or woman!) who would like to participate, have them call the BBBS office. We'd love for you to become part of our family!

We've just started a program called "Amachi Texas"...which is a program where children with incarcerated family members can be enrolled in the BBBS program. "Amachi" is an African word which means "Who knows what God will do through this child?"

Pretty powerful, huh?

And you can be a part of that - you can sow into a child's life. I promise, should you choose to participate, not only will that little one's life be changed...yours will as well. Steve, Tyrel and I are all "Bigs"...and our lives have been profoundly affected, for the better.

'nuff said. Thanks again for the sweet comments, Eric. God bless you and yours.

ps- "Wickedly accurate" = 95/100. I'm still at the "good "for a girl" stage." (Or that's what my peers say!)

Janie, that's a good commercial for BBBS, and I hope you have success recruiting more volunteers. It's not something I feel called to do, but that's not meant as any kind of judgment about the worthiness of the work or the organization.

I'm still at the "good "for a girl" stage." (Or that's what my peers say!)

Have you seen that "what will your last words be?" meme floating around on various blogs? I would have to think that telling a woman with a loaded shotgun that she's "pretty good...for a girl" would fall squarely into that category! ;-)

Now...that is funny! And they should be scared, I won a sweet gun today! My score suffered a little, what are these things they call trees and what is that funky stuff called flowing water? Not used to such diversions in the wild west of Texas!

PS - the BBBS blurb wasn't directed so much at you as to your numerous readers! I know you move when the Father tells you to...not to worry!
