Movie Quote Quiz
It's been a while since we had a good movie quiz, and I'm not about to change that. But here's a so-so one which will have to do until the real thing comes along. Identify in the comments what movie each of the following famous and not-so- lines come from. The winners will have the letters in their names used in an upcoming post.
- I'd rather p*** on a spark plug...
- Would you ask Picasso to sell his guitar?!
- Hog lumps!
- Rollin' with th' homies...
- What hump?
- You should be dead, but apparently you weren't ready for that either.
- How much for the women?
- Joanie, I don't lend my car to anyone with funny eyes.
- I swallowed a bug!
- They're gonna need some more FBI guys, I guess.
Beth, that's actually not the movie I was looking for -- it's a much more recent one -- but I'll still give you credit for it, because, well, that's just the kind of guy I am. ;-)
Posted by: Eric at May 19, 2006 08:47 AMI only know #7, but can I leave another line from the same scene, instead of the title?
"Wrong glass, sir."
Posted by: Brian at May 19, 2006 09:11 AMOoh, very discreet...and quite correct, sir.
Posted by: Eric at May 19, 2006 09:34 AMI don't know a single one of these quotes. I like the last one though.
Posted by: Jim at May 19, 2006 09:55 AMI'm not sure of any of these except #2. That's from The Beatles, "A Hard Days Night".
Posted by: Wallace-Midland, Texas at May 19, 2006 10:38 AMWhat hump? Young Frankenstein.
Posted by: julie at May 19, 2006 10:52 AM#5 - "Young Frankenstein"
#6 - "The Matrix"
#7 - "Blues Brothers"
#9 - "A Bug's Life"
#10 - "Die Hard"
**********
Eric, are you going to see "DaVinci Code" today?
Posted by: Jeff at May 19, 2006 10:56 AMThat's "Frahnk-un-steen"!
Do you also say "Froderick"?
So, Julie and Jeff got #5 right, and Jeff is correctomundo for #s 6 (I'm impressed), 7, and 10. #9 may be correct, but it's still not what I have in mind. The one I'm thinking of is much more recent (and a much better movie, IMHO).
Jeff, we're not planning to see DC...just not interested. How 'bout you guys?
Posted by: Eric at May 19, 2006 10:59 AMHint us on #9. I can hear it in my mind, but can't put the visual with it...
Posted by: julie at May 19, 2006 11:11 AMWow. Thanks! Who knew there were so many (i.e. more than 1) movies with that line in them?
Even knowing the answers I'm having a hard time placing the quotes.
Good quiz! :)
Posted by: beth at May 19, 2006 11:37 AMOnce again, I'm clueless. I can start Googling if necessary, but I'm bad, bad, bad when it comes to a) seeing movies, and b) remembering them. Where are the "B" movie quotes? ;-)
But now that I know #7, I do remember that line. One of the greatest comedies of all time!
Posted by: Gwynne at May 19, 2006 11:44 AM#1 - "Wargames"
(I had to listen to it in my head ... once I heard it, I placed the character, then the movie)
Posted by: Jeff at May 19, 2006 12:01 PMJeff, I figured that one would be a no-brainer for most folks. It was a great line from a less-than-great-but-still-watchable movie.
Posted by: Eric at May 19, 2006 01:09 PMGwynne, I started to use the line about the big knockers from "Young Frankenstein," but figured that wouldn't be up to the high standards of my readers. ;-)
Posted by: Eric at May 19, 2006 01:10 PMWho knew there were so many (i.e. more than 1) movies with that line in them?
Well, not me, that's for sure!
I'm still waiting for the right answer, by the way. (Some of you are going to do the old "slap the forehead" thing when you find out what movie I have in mind.)
Posted by: Eric at May 19, 2006 01:11 PMLike Gwynne with #7, now that I know the origin of 10, I remember.
Still no clue about any of the unsolved others. And I even saw War Games... you have a mind like a trap, Eric.
RE: The Davinci Code... not interested at all despite Ron Howard as director and Tom Hanks. Apparently a bunch of the folks at Cannes felt the same way, only they had to sit through the movie to find that out.
Posted by: Jim at May 19, 2006 01:49 PMyou have a mind like a trap, Eric.
Yeah...a lint trap.
The quote from "Die Hard," for those who can't quite recall the scene, came just after the crash and explosion of the helicopter carrying the condescending FBI agents who quite rudely took over control from the local police. The police officer who had been running the operation delivered the line.
Posted by: Eric at May 19, 2006 02:03 PMI'd've gotten the knockers line. It's the only thing I remember about said movie. What can I say, I was young and impressionable.
Posted by: beth at May 19, 2006 02:22 PMThe high standards of your readers.
Why thank you Herr Professor!
I'm guessing that you are looking for this one for #9.
Posted by: Phelps at May 22, 2006 04:32 PMPhelps, that's it! I can't believe nobody remembered that until now...
Posted by: Eric at May 22, 2006 04:40 PM
Wow. The only one I know is #9 - that's Overboard with Goldie Hahn and Kurt Russell. He follows up with "Keep your mouth closed." :)
