Why I'm No Longer Interested in Pro Football
The sports section in this morning's local newspaper carries a section entitled "NFL News & Notes." It consists of four stories, with the following headlines:
- Vikings plead guilty in boat party case
- Bears' Manning pleads not guilty to L.A. assault
- Former Redskins star sentenced for cocaine distribution
- Report says [Cleveland Browns'] Droughns threw wife out door
I'm getting old. I can remember when offseason football reports involved trades and speculation about the upcoming season. Now we get the program guide for next week's episodes of "Law and Order."
Jeff, "Invincible" sounds very familiar. I recall seeing a trailer about an "against all odds" football team, but it had a bunch of kids from a juvie prison "Boot Camp" and seemed awfully derivative of "The Longest Yard," only not as funny. So perhaps it's not the same movie.

Posted by: Eric at May 27, 2006 08:48 PMEric, no, not the same movie. "Invincible" is based upon the true story of Vince Papali, a 30sh teacher-turned-bartender who answers the Phaldelphia Eagles' open call for team tryouts during the 'strike year.'
It is an 'against all odds' story, but I think it will be a lot better than that film you described.
By the way, I think Jim is trying to steal your identity, Eric.

Eric, when it comes to love of football, I've reached something of a turning point ... but it's the good news that was (rather than the bad news that is) that may have brought me to this point ...
With the Steelers winning Super Bowl #5 this past season, and Jerome Bettis enjoying a happy ending to a storybook season and career, I honestly don't know if I'm thirsty any longer ... I feel as if I've drunk my fill ...
Speaking of football, have you seen the trailer for "Invincible?" ... it's all about dreams of football glory on the other side of Pennsylvania, from Pittsburgh ... a movie with Mark Wahlberg, from the people who made "The Rookie" ... I'm planning on seeing it when it opens ...
