Some Texas blues from the King of Blue-Eyed Soul:

Yay! :)

One question though: What would blues artists do if they ever successfully lost their blues? Or would they then sing the blues about having lost their blues? And would that be a happy tune? Or even more bluesy than normal?

Yes, those are truly vexing questions.

On a pseduo-related note, I have a CD by a very talented guy named Terry McMillan who has recorded a few "Christian blues" songs. Now, from one perspective, that's entirely appropriate, as Christians get the blues just as often as other people...and perhaps more often, as we contemplate the true nature of the world around us. But in his case, the words are upbeat, it's just the musical style -- the traditional 12-bar blues progression -- that is typical of the genre.

Carrying on with that thread, blues grew out of gospel music (at least, that is what I like to believe) so it really can be upbeat if you put it in a Christian perspective, i.e. looking more to God and less to the world for happiness.

That said, nothing provides more stereotypically "depressing" lyrics than blues mixed with country/western . I actually chuckled most of the way through that there song you just read. It was classic! I always think of blues-rock (a la Stevie Ray Vaughn) when I think of Texas blues. I had no idea there were so many variations on the Texas blues scene (i.e. East Tx, West Tx, South Tx blues).

Anyway, bravo!

Oh, and Beth, a number of artists do sing songs about losing their blues. ;-)

The thing about "Lone Star Blues" is that it just begs to be sung along with...it's a good ol' boy honky-tonk blues number in just the right key for making you think you're a lot better than you really are. I took the high road and spared youse guys from that experience, but it wasn't easy. I actually sang the final chorus, and then edited it out at the last minute.

No sense in giving everyone else the blues.

Chuckle. I thought I detected a little singing going on. ;-)

I love my new keyboard :-\ Sorry about the duplicate entry there.

We went to the Garlic Press last night with friends and listened to "Duology" - two very able guitarists. A very enjoyable night! I'm so glad proprietor Josh Washburn called me to remind me of our reservation (made at least 2 months ago but somehow missed making in into my outlook calendar.)!
