Blogathon Music Quiz #4
And now, as they say, for something completely different.
As I proved last year, owning a guitar and being able to play one are two entirely different matters. However, this year I'm much more confident in my incompetence, to the point where I've actually created a music quiz using no outside talent. Well, as you'll soon hear, I completely bypassed the application of talent.
Anyway, here's the deal. For a coffee mug, anybody can play, pledger or not, previous winner or not. I need only the name of each of the ten songs in this medley.
By the way, this is a 750kb mp3, in case your connection speed is a concern. And save your comments about the out-of-tune guitar. At this time of the morning, I'm lucky I knew which side to strum.
Bonus points to whoever can tell me the characteristic that applies to this group of songs as a whole.
Dang, are you still up?
Let me guess...you test those 9v batteries by sticking them to your tongue, and that's why you're not afraid of being sleepy at church!
Anyway, there's nothing I can do that guitar that will help. Believe me.
Well, other than give it to someone who can play it.
Posted by: Eric at July 30, 2006 01:54 AMyes I'm still here. Since the family is out of town I'm doing what any man worth his salt is doing at 2:00 (other than blogging for a good cause), I'm doing laundry.
these are all familiar but to be honest I don't hear them as often in the 9:40 service like I used to so the titles are not coming to me as quickly as I'd like.
Posted by: Sound Guy at July 30, 2006 02:11 AMHeh. You mean, "I don't hear them at all in the 9:40 service."
One sort of needs to be a hymnologist to get these, and I think all of them have gone to bed.
Posted by: Eric at July 30, 2006 02:16 AMAnd I have to change out computers again....excuse me while I power down and up again...
Posted by: Gwynne at July 30, 2006 02:20 AM1. O Worship the King
2. All Creatures of Our God and King
3. Holy Spirit, Breathe on Me
4. Living for Jesus
5. Leaning on the Everlasting Arms
6. Heavenly Sunlight
7. Heaven Came Down and Glory Filled My Soul
8. On Jordan's Stormy Banks (I Am Bound for the Promised land
9. We Gather Together
10. Count Your Blessings
Hymns they are; want the first verse of each?
Breathe on Me took me awhile. It was the first interval on that threw me. But I'm not commenting on the tuning of the guitar.
Posted by: Phyllis at July 30, 2006 02:27 AMDid I get it right? I'd like to go back to sleep!!!
Posted by: Phyllis at July 30, 2006 02:29 AMSorry, I was distracted...didn't see your comment. But, of course you got it right! I never doubted that you would, if you ever got the chance.
You didn't go for the bonus points, but that's OK. You still get the mug!
Posted by: Eric at July 30, 2006 02:30 AMI am impressed with Phyllis!! The only one I got was #8. I was wanting you to hum a few more bars of each. Harder than I thought to pick out just the guitar track. Yikes!
Posted by: Gwynne at July 30, 2006 02:44 AMGwynne, Phyllis is what is known as a ringer. She was likely playing these hymns on the piano at the same age that we (well, me, anyway) were entering the toilet training phase.
Even with the added burden of my guitar playing, this medley for her was like me pitching that FAS softball in your direction. ;-)
I just wasn't sure she'd still be up to catch it.
Posted by: Eric at July 30, 2006 02:52 AMUm, I couldn't have been singing them when you were TTing, I don't think, since I'm not sure I was BORN yet. Just how early did your mother decide to work with you? Never mind. Let's not get into that. Suffice it to say, if you weren't so sleep-deprived, I'd be irked at the insinuation of how old I must be!!!
(Does that make me vain? I guess so.)
Posted by: Phyllis at July 30, 2006 02:57 AMI didn't say you were...I specifically said "at the same age." You're sleepy. Go back to bed.

they sound familiar... maybe if you could tune your guitar to sound more like an organ that would help.
