Meet the real stars of "Snakes On A Plane"

[Warning: Serpent Alert]

Snakes On a Plane opens tomorrow, and we plan to see it at the earliest convenient time. Make of that what you will; it sounds like a fun movie*.

Anyway, if you want to get up close and personal with the serpent stars, take a look at this National Geographic interview with the snake wrangler who worked the film, and the related photo gallery.

If it makes you feel any better, according to the article About two-thirds of the film's serpents are either animatronic or computer generated.

Still, that leaves a slithering one-third.

*Anyone dare me to let loose a slinky from the top of the movie theater during the movie?

Excellent. I have affected change. (Effected? I never get that right. ) Thanks for the alert. And for the warning about that pesky 1/3.

Yeah, I totally dare you. Even funnier? Rubber snakes.

I dare you to take those snakes that pop out of a can...the spring loaded variety. ;-)

I love the name of this movie, if not the concept. I don't think I'll be watching this one, until it comes out on dvd.

Beth, I'm easily effected. Affected. Uhfected. Whatever.

I don't think I'll be watching this one, until it comes out on dvd.

Boy, so much for your argument that accounting can be fun. I'll bet there are accountants listed in the credits to this movie.

I'll bet there are accountants listed in the credits to this movie.

Yeah, well, snake accounting is just not my cuppa tea. One snake unaccounted for in my house is more than enough for me!

I triple dog dare you, Eric.

That's right, breaching etiquette, and going straight for the triple dog...

After thinking about it, I'm not sure there's a slinky in the world stout enough to make its way down a sticky theater floor.

Posted by: Eric at August 17, 2006 08:51 PM

did you see the pic of the snake with the BLACK FORKED tongue???? Eeeuw!!!

I'm not a betting man but if I were I'd wager that a number of clever souls think of the whole snake-in-a-box thing. At least your slinky idea is unique. Alone or in pairs.

One more reason to wait until DVD.

I think the sound of the slinky (alone or in pairs...heh) will be enough to cause several heart attacks. Better up your umbrella policy before trying this in a theatre near you. ;-)

Posted by: Gwynne at August 17, 2006 09:49 PM

Yeah, Gwynne...you get it. It's the sound, not the visuals, that make the slinky so diabolical in that setting.

Mis_Nomer, if that gives you the creeps, what does this do for you? ;-)

I'm real glad that y'all are going before I get there (hows that, I'm practising my Texan drawl hehe!). I agree with Brian, take that slinky!

See - and here's the truly hillarious thing. I'm actually considering seeing this. Yes, it's akin to an acrophobic going to the top of the Eiffel Tower. But it's akin in many ways - cause, well, if you're in Paris, you suck it up and go up to the top. You just do. Or you kick yourself for the rest of your life. And this ...well, Tim really wants to see it. And he said he's willing to clear rooms for me for the next 3 or 4 weeks until I come out of my stress coma, so...we'll see what happens.

Posted by: beth at August 18, 2006 06:46 AM

the real starts or the reel stars. (i know, I should be one to tawk...)

Posted by: Jon at August 18, 2006 08:38 AM

Rachel, we don't have a problem seeing a movie twice. ;-)

Beth, I commend you for your willingness to confront your fears, although comparing watching SoaP to climbing the Eiffel Tower seems a bit lopsided. In any event, you'll apparently accrue some significant points with Tim (not that you need any more) and that counts for something, right?

Jon, I guess we'd better use the "reel" references while we still can. That term will eventually fade into obsolescence as theaters go digital.

Posted by: Eric at August 18, 2006 08:55 AM

Tim has decided that he's happy to wait for it to be on HBO. This way, he can record it and watch it at some time when I am not present. Life is good. I actually had a little hyperventillating session this afternoon when I thought about what I had gotten myself into. :) (Yeah, I know, so much for facing my fears. I did watch the trailer though, so does that count for anything?)
