Go North, Young Ant

About the same time BP was announcing that its Prudhoe Bay pipeline system was dissolving like a fizzy in battery acid, our friends Lyle and Cindy were off on a vacation jaunt. Could there possibly be a connection?

Well, you decide:

Fire ants on the North Slope? Hmmmm...

This would make a great recurring feature: Fire Ant shirts in exotic locales. The only problem is that it will require that the eight people who've actually purchased one will have to start doing some serious traveling.

That back of the head shot is amazing!

Yeah, I sense a trend here.

Eric, that dog-gone BP!

The previous proprieter of the pipeline (wink, wink ... nudge, nudge) would never have let that happen to the pipeline ... would have occasionally run a pig through there ...

I really did think BP had its act together better than that, but I think the chickens are coming home to roost following so many years of hammering on people to cut costs...even when it didn't make operational sense. If you analyze BP's long string of "bad luck" over the past few years, you'll find at the heart of each of those incidents some degree of inattention to maintenance and/or investment in safety precautions, neither of which help your bottom line -- until things go wrong (and they will, inevitably) and hindsight shows you that it would have been much better to incur those costs as preventative measures.

But enough of that soapbox preaching (although it's my right as a stockholder!).

If you knew how badly Cindy hates being cold, you would appreciate her act of shedding her jackets to get this picture! I took a picture and then had her stand there while we rounded up my brother-in-law to take this picture (it turned out much better than mine!!)

I sorta got the feeling from her posture that she was feeling a bit chilled, and so I do appreciate the sacrifice she made on behalf of the Gazette.

Perhaps I need to add a line of Fire Ant ski parkas to the online store!
