Emmitt's HEB Commercial
For those who don't live in Texas, here's where you can view Emmitt Smith's commercial on behalf of the H-E-B Grocery chain that aired during last night's Super Bowl.
Hmm. The Flash version played fine for me just now.
Posted by: Eric at February 5, 2007 11:17 AMYep. Looks like they've got it back up.
I think what makes the commercial something more than a recognizable face bopping through the supermarket is the cheesy (but faithful) aping of the Bee Gees.
Posted by: Foo at February 5, 2007 12:47 PMWell, that and the fact that he also faithfully replicates some of the moves that he learned on Dancing with the Stars. I'm sure that a lot more people will relate to DWTS than with the Bee Gees, which, honestly, dates us pretty depressingly.
Posted by: Eric at February 5, 2007 12:51 PMWhat dates me even more is that I remember a few of their songs from the early (19)60s--before their Saturday Night Fever reinvention--that really were pretty good.
And I was wrong about there being H-E-B stores in Dallas. The nearest is Ennis, so I probably just remembered seeing an H-E-B on the way to a cycling rally or something.

Posted by: robert at February 6, 2007 12:12 PMYes...but it looks different on him, for some reason.
Posted by: Eric at February 6, 2007 12:40 PMWe never get stars like that in Midland. Or maybe we make our own stars!!
Posted by: Janie at February 6, 2007 03:33 PMHey that's great! Glad you linked up to it!

It must have been really good--and so popular that all the hits forced H-E-B to take it down.
