Coulter vs. Maher: Who's Worse? And Who Cares?
Jim's wondering where the conservative outcry is with respect to Ann Coulter's latest outburst.
Could be, Jim, that some of us distanced ourselves from Ms. Coulter years ago, and we don't see the need to continue respond to everything the apparently deranged woman spews out.
However, I see that I'm not the only one wondering where the liberal outcry is with respect to Bill Maher's more serious -- in my opinion, anyway -- outburst.
I dunno where Jim's looking. Captain's Quarters, The Corner, Michelle Malkin, and Mary Katherine Ham at the very least have all condemned Coulter's epithet.
As for Maher's bile, don't you know he was just "speaking truth to power"?

Posted by: Jim at March 5, 2007 06:49 PMThis is exactly why I shy away from "political" blogs. It's not that I disagree with what is being said in all cases, but it is usually only hurts people and solves nothing. I am not blameless in aiding Coulter's success, having listened to her on occasion, and having bought at least one of her books, How To Talk to A Liberal (If You Must), hardcover even (I even laughed out loud at some of her points, pointed as they were), BUT, her caustic sarcasm quickly becomes poisonous and I agree that's a dangerous place to park your positions. Same with Maher. In the end, both are twits whose vile comments aren't worth the time it takes to listen to them.
Posted by: Gwynne at March 5, 2007 10:06 PMNot suggesting you should, Jim, but if you're looking for "conservative outcry", you might try some conservative sites. ;-)
Posted by: Kelly at March 6, 2007 06:56 AMGwynne, that's also the reason I generally resist doing political posts. I know that's not why people read the Gazette. (I don't know why they do, but I do know it's not for the sparkling political insights.)
Posted by: Eric at March 6, 2007 08:08 AMI wasn't looking for conservative outcry, those were Eric's words. I was wondering... two days ago when I wrote that post... why there wasn't a more general response about Coulter's ugly remarks, and the ugly worldview from which it sprung. I didn't see it in the news, which didn't at the time mention any of the sites you mentioned. But I did find a news article that referred to Evangelical Outpost, so I linked to it.
Interestingly, while searching through the news, I did not run across Maher's equally ugly inference. That is why I was glad to find out about it via Eric's post. And in the interest of fairness, I then posted something about it too. Not that I need to be fair or balanced or anything, it's my blog after all, but I didn't want to further the impression that I was being "selective."
As for blogs, I find political blogs to be boring in the extreme. I avoid conservative blogs, liberal blogs, and political blogs in general like the plague, and cliches.

I agree with you. And as if to prove your point, I didn't even hear about Maher's comment!
That's heinous... and so is he. I feel sort of the same about him as you feel about Coulter, though I think both are beyond deranged.
