Changes

I was about halfway through a post in which I was sharing my wisdom about gun control and related issues when it hit me with magnum force (ha): this isn't any fun.

Blogging in general hasn't been much fun for the past couple of months, in fact, with a few exceptions. And those exceptions have been good reminders that I somehow lost my way. I got busy trying to be a pundit (I don't even know what that is, but that didn't stop me from aspiring to be one), thinking that my insights and perceptions were really key to straightening out the rest of the world.

Well, that's all gonna change, starting now. You'll have to go elsewhere for pith, angst, schadenfreude -- no, wait; strike that...schadenfreude falls into the category of "fun" -- and overarching politosocioecocraponomic commentary. There are plenty of folks linked over in the right-hand column who provide that stuff and who have the added benefit of actually knowing what they're talking about.

So, look for shorter posts about trivial subjects which are guaranteed not to put ideas in your head that will cause you to lose sleep. That's my pledge to you. No, really. I'm dead serious. Content Free™ is back, baby!

But first, I have to go eat a sandwich.

Eric, I don't imagine any of your readers would have described what you do here as punditry. Good, bad or indifferent. But no doubt, there are things you have said that have changed the world, and are changing the world, and will continue to change the world, whatever your intentions may be. Call it Content-Free if you like, but we all know better. ;-)

Well, there is good cholesterol and bad cholesterol. Perhaps what you intend by content-free is really just free of bad content. You've always had good content, and your readers have no doubt you will continue to have it. You're a healthy, wholesome blogger, so there is little bad content for you to remove, anyway.

(P.S. I completely understand the loss of fun with blogging, and still haven't gotten it back. Maybe it really is about keeping a focus and being brief on a few things instead of trying to blog the whole of life. Actually, I very much enjoy blogging (the writing), but not trying to write about every interesting idea, news item, or event. A focus is needed. It will be interesting to see how your changes work out. All the best with it!)

What kind of sandwich?

Gwynne, I don't disagree that I've used some of the same words that others used in changing the world (just as I'm pretty sure I've breathed some of the same oxygen atoms that Jesus inhaled and exhaled -- which is pretty cool to think about) but it's the order of those words and the authority behind them that makes the difference. I think I'm happy being disorganized and non-authoritative. But I appreciate your kind words, nonetheless.

Rob, I'm also working on a nonfat, low cholesterol version of the Gazette. With chocolate. But I do think you're spot on with the focus thing, although in my case it's more a focus on a style or attitude than a topic or range of issues.

Jen, that's the best question I've been asked all day. It was Healthy Choice mesquite turkey, full of nitrite-y goodness, sandwiched between oat-nut-honey bread, with hamburger dills and low-fat mayo. Fortunately, there were cookies to follow.

That sandwich sounds yummy and cookies too! A person could forget what they were going to say after reading all about the food in this post hehe.

The short version of what I was going to say is - You post it...I'll read it :).

Hey now! Nothing at all wrong with a dab o' pithy content from time to time. I'm all for lighter posts, but I've also enjoyed your more meaty topics too.

Rachel, don't lose focus on your "remodeling project" just because I'm blathering on about food! ;-)

Rob, I suppose pith is in the eye of the beholder. (Whoa. That doesn't sound right, does it?) I'm not swearing off the "meaty topics" entirely; I've just resolved to be less stressed about feeling that I have to write about 'em.
