Caution: Self-Editing at Work

Despite a recent promise to the contrary, and fueled by a combination of late night ingestion of caffeine and an irrational need to employ the phrase "intentionally provocative," I descended into the depths of punditry with respect to the just-announced lawsuit by the ACLU against the Odessa school district over the latter's inclusion of a "Bible as literature" elective in its curriculum.

Having slept on it, I've decided to remain true(r) to my promise and I've deleted the post. An unfortunate consequence is that that also required deletion of comments which – as usual – were more pithy and well thought-out than the post itself. To those who left the comments, I apologize.

For the rest of you, perhaps this post will be sufficiently intentionally provocative.

Eric ..... I, for one, would like to see the original post ..... I missed it, yesterday, but I can make some assumptions on what you said - unfortunately, though, they would just be that ..... assumptions .....

I may - or may not! - agree with what you said - bit I have never, EVER, been dissapointed .... and that includes posts with 'content'

Jeff, I appreciate your comment, but I realized this isn't a battle I want to fight.

We'll have plenty of other opportunities, I'm sure, now that the ACLU has opened a west Texas office.

Sometimes I stay up too late also, when it would have been better for me to go to bed with a book. But trifocals make it so hard to read in bed.

There is however, something quite evocative about the word provocative :)

It's a most excellent word, isn't it? You can surely understand how it got the better of me.

You should consider switching to progressive lenses, by the way. Not that they'll help you see any better; they'll just allow you vary the precise location of your neck pains.

Now I have to go look up the word "punditry"
If I can learn to not open my mouth as much I might not open so many cans of worms but I have a hard time not speaking my mind. I am quite sure I will find some other local blogs that have opened this one. Think I'll go look

Bob, I guess everyone has a different idea about how they want to use their blog. I'm trying to keep mine from getting too serious about anything. We've already got enough media outlets providing fodder for dissension and contention without my adding to them.

Dang. Missed it by that much. Almost makes me want to rethink my excitement about working these two days.

Jim, you didn't miss it; you just didn't get to read it – if you catch my drift.

Have no fear Eric. As a policy wonk and political scientist I do have your back.
