Nice try, but it won't work

Judging by the traffic numbers to this here blog yesterday, my writing seems to be most attractive when there isn't any. I can only attribute this phenomenon to the actions of hundreds of people who, scarcely believing their good luck, keep coming back here to confirm that I have, indeed, not posted anything.

But I'm on to your nefarious plan, and I'm going to keep writing even if it means driving the readership back down to zero, where it belongs.

It was the snakes ... no one wanted to talk about snakes. I kept checking, hoping the snakes would be gone. You have a sanguine attitude about snakes that I cannot share.

Deborah, I'm tempted to reply that snakes are people, too. But I guess it's really the other way around, sometimes. ;-)

Our resident biologist and curator of the Sibley Nature Center wrote an essay a few years ago entitled Are Snakes Evil? It's his take on the seemingly natural and almost universal revulsion people have to the slithery reptiles.

Sanguine is such a nice word.

Yes, especially when used in a particular [non-Firefox spell-check recognized] derivative: exsanguination.

See, I was checking to see if anyone else had said anything about the snakes - I figured there were sure to be fascinating comments left by non-terrified people since the terrified one (aka me) left one. Maybe snake photos are like car accidents...you just can't look away.

exsanguination: not so nice.

Beth, I was just trying not to encourage him. ;-)
