College Daze: And so it begins...

That highly anticipated event is almost upon us and we're giddy with, um, anticipation. No, it's not Paris Hilton's imminent release from prison, it's the beginning of the Nephew's college career.

It got real last night as we helped him get signed up for a session with a faculty adviser (800 miles of driving for a one-hour meeting on July 30th – bye-bye, Blogathon), got the details for the mandatory student orientation in mid-August, and, most importantly, nailed down the deadline for mailing the first tuition and fees check.

We also hopped onto Apple's Education Store website and ordered him a MacBook, meaning that he'll now have a better computer than me, not that I'm jealous or anything.

It's all pretty exciting, actually. I haven't been back on the A&M campus in at least twenty years, and I'm sure I won't recognize much of anything. I doubt that the Corps quad has changed a lot, though, and that's where the Nephew will be calling home for the next four years, if things unfold according to plan.

I'll try not to burden you with every detail – but, no promises. This is a big deal; if he does graduate (and he will) he'll be the first in his family to do so.

Prayers gratefully accepted. Cash, too. ;-)

I just want to say that I think the Nephew is blessed to have you and YLB as Aunt and Uncle! Go Aggies!!

Well, just in case it doesn't work out as planned (and there's no reason to think it won't), the best second choice is just two hours north of you. If ever there is occasion to broach the subject with him, point out that one thing our prospective student viewbook fails to highlight is the ubiquity of cute co-eds here. And most of them seriously care to study, so he would have academic encouragement well mixed with social fulfillment.

We are nonetheless grateful that he's not going orange!

Rob, he was actually accepted to Tech, but the Corps was the leveraging factor in the final decision. We would have been equally accepting of the northern alternative (it would have been pretty cool to find out that he landed in one of your classes!), but we also agree with your last sentence. You have to draw the line somewhere.

Um...that statue guy never has gotten of that horse, has he? ;-)

Gwynne, thanks for the encouragement. However, we need some remedial cheering counseling. The technically correct vocal affirmation is "gig 'em, Aggies!" (Yeah, I know. Just go with it.)

I thought the proper cheer was **deleted**!!

But then, I have an uncle teaching over in Austin, so that might explain it. :)

Despite the choice of schools, your nephew is one lucky kid! (Actually, that was probably true even before the whole college thing.)

Oh, gee, Beth...look what that tacky old spam filter did to your comment! I'm so sorry. ;-)

LOL.

Silly ol spam filter. ;)

I agree, He's a lucky guy to have an uncle and Aunty like you guys in his life.

That's kind of you to say, Rachel. He's a good kid (but don't tell him I said that).

FYI, I think the comments are disabled on the next post.

Oops. I drafted it over a month ago and the comments automatically close after ten days. I didn't notice when I moved it out of the draft category.

I'm not sure why anyone would want to leave a comment, but they are open again.

So now, I guess I better leave a comment. ;-)
