What were they thinking?

If you ever get to the point where you start believing that television programmers might actually know what they're doing, or that the general television viewing public has an eye for quality programming, stop and remind yourself that the plug was pulled on Firefly after only eleven episodes while Ghost Whisperer is about to start its third season.

If those facts don't give you a strong dose of reality, you're gorram doomed.

Ain't that the sad, sad truth.

To this exhibit we can also add: Farscape, Dead Like Me, and Arrested Development. It's pathetic.

Ah. Dead Like Me. One of Mandy's more interesting roles. Did you happen to catch the DLM marathon on the SciFi Channel a couple of weekends back?

I saw only a couple of episodes of Farscape, and it just never clicked. I think I missed too much of it to get caught up. And I haven't seen any Arrested Development, but I've heard many good things about it.

Huh?

Is it getting dusty in here or is it just me?

Yup that is a tear and I still get angry about that but I console myself by watching my DVDs.

Sigh

Jim, a "television" is an electronic device which displays moving pictures via invisible rays plucked out of the ether.

but I console myself by watching my DVDs.

Christopher, there are worse ways to spend your time.

Farscape took a little bit to warm up, but I think you'd probably like it if you liked Firefly. When you find you've nothing better to do, you might give the DVDs a chance. :)

I didn't watch the DLM marathon, but I have them all recorded so I can marathon when I feel like it.

I'm still lamenting the demise of The Mole and cursing that Big Brother is in it's 8th season.

Television just isn't the same without a Joss Whedan show. Long live the Browncoats! I am consoling myself by reading season 8 of Buffy in comic book form.

Beth, I'll keep that in mind as a gift hint.

Jen, I came this close to using Big Brother as the comparison, then opted for something that was more related, genre-wise.

Will, I'm holding out for a Serenity sequel.

I'm with you on Firefly, and my wife has given up trying to make me feel guilty about my repeated viewings of Serenity.

To the list I'll add Studio 60. I was apparently the only one who thought the acting and writing were top notch.

You know, I had never seen Firefly when I saw Serenity. Couldn't quite grok the outcry over Wash's death. But, now that I'm almost all the way through the TV series, I understand that that plot twist was actually quite stunning.
