Finally. A truly worthy task for the MDC.
If the Midland Development Corporation wants to truly make an impact on our city, it needs to get it in gear and figure out (a) why Odessa was selected for a branch office of Dunder Mifflin Infinity and Midland wasn't, and (2) how our fair city can get on the list.
This injustice cannot stand!
If you have no frame of reference for the preceding, other than agreeing that it's always good when a new business opens its doors in the area, then this post is not for you.
Jeff, I think it's pretty hilarious that out of all the Texas cities NBC had to choose from, Odessa made the cut. But as you point out, maybe there's more method to the madness than is immediately obvious.
Posted by: Eric at October 11, 2007 10:09 PMIt could be that they already have another TV paper company in Odessa, Primatech Paper Co., from Heroes.
Curses! Are we doomed to lose the Fake Company Recruiting Wars?
I blame "Friday Night Lights."
Posted by: Eric at October 12, 2007 11:09 AMEric, I think you hit the nail right on the head. I believe FNL has raised the profile of the name 'Odessa' in the industry, especially at NBC. By the way, I've used your post as a jumping-off point for a post of my own about 'second unit' or 'location' work ..... good and not-so-good.
Posted by: Jeff at October 12, 2007 12:00 PMYou Midlanders should cheer up. True, Odessa did make the cut and you didn't.
However, in looking over their website, I noticed that Beaumont also made the cut. Honestly, can any Texas city get upset over being left off a list that includes Beaumont?

LOVE IT!
Actually, Odessa is a lot like Scranton in a lot of ways, including having a comparable city (Midland / Wilkes-Barre) close-by that is sometimes-neighborly/sometimes not.
