"OK, everybody go deep..."

Update: The video is no longer available via YouTube, but it is still posted on the UTube Blog. Watch it while you can; the traffic from Sports Illustrated may well bring that blog's server to its knees.

Your football team is down by six, two seconds to go, and you've got the ball on your own 39 yard line. Quick: which play do you call?

Do you think the quarterback actually specified 15 laterals in the huddle?

It may be Division III, and the announcers may be somewhat less than network-polished, but I seriously doubt that you'll ever see a more exciting ending to a football game than this.

Vid link via the UTube Blog, as described on Stewart Mandel's SI.com column.

Guess it violated someone's copy rights, 'cause it's gone now.

Eric, thanks for sharing ..... I couldn't get your link to work for me, so I followed your other link to the UT blog and watched it there ..... GREAT stuff.

My friend (who is super into football - plays semi-pro, etc.) sent me the link to the YouTube (which got taken down) so I was confused. However, since you have a link that's working (the UTubeBlog link) I was finally able to see it - thanks!

It's much cooler to see than to try and have described. :)

One of THE best plays I have ever seen in football! And yes, I have seen many!!!

And yes that's Trinity, my Alma Mater. In fact in 1970 the, then QB, Forrest Dunlap and I drew up that play. I'm glad they finally got a chance to use it. I'd be glad to diagram it for anyone who emails. It it is winning all the votes on ESPN's plays that make a difference. Here's the link: Trinity Big Play

You're slowing down in your old age, Wallace. I was anticipating your comment days ago.

Wallace, you may have a money-maker on your hands ..... t-shirts with diagrams of "The Play" (Cal/Stanford, 1982) were big sellers in their day ..... X's, O's, arrows, and a few musical notes at the end of that play.

By the way, I notice a nod to the Trinity/Millsap game has already been added to Wikipedia's "The Play" page.

Sorry, my html didn't work ..... here's the link for the wikipedia page.

Eric, I didn't want to toot our own horn excessively, but since others were tooting I thought I'd add mine. Trinity used to be an NCAA Div I school and actually have a decent team for our size, sending several guys to the Pros. Like my, before my time, frat brother Obert Logan with the Cowboys and Marving Upshaw with the St. Louis Cardinals. And, of course we were NCAA Tennis National Champs while I was there. A direct result of me not playing.

I'm glad to see that Trinity is getting national attention again and is putting athletics back were it belongs.....ahead of all that scholastic mumbo-jumbo.

I see in reviewing Wikipedia that ESPN is now reporting that "The Play", or the Immaculate Lateral [s] may be the longest play, timewise, in college history lasting a full 62 seconds. How proud we alums are...and we beat that powerhouse, Millsaps.

Now that I've seen the video, all I can say is "that's amazing." And insane.
