Going Postal...really slowly

I heard on TV this morning that today is the busiest day of the year for the US Postal Service.

Our local branch is choosing to commemorate this occasion by having only two of its four windows open for business.

Postal customers have another term for the day.

This is not unlike the crappy scheme at Wal-Mart to open only 3 checkout lanes on the weekend. We insanely stood in line for 20 minutes yesterday just to purchase maybe a dozen small items.

I'm couldn't be happier that the Post Office branch nearest us brought in an ATM-style shipping kiosk about 2 years ago. Thanks to this, it's rare that I even have to interact with an actual Postal worker.

I'm a huge fan of the kiosk, but you can't do everything via them.

And I have to say that I don't mind at all the actual interaction with the postal workers; they're uniformly pleasant and efficient. There just aren't enough of them.

"they're uniformly pleasant and efficient. There just aren't enough of them."

admit it eric, you're just trying to flatter them so they won't shoot you on their next rampage.

... and i'd like to add that i find postal employees to be the most attractive and intelligent people i've ever met.

They can also sniff condescension from a hundred yards.

that's ok, because i have restraining order against them all that should keep them well over 100 yards away from me.

We have three post offices within reasonable driving distance from Random Manor, and the employees, like those in Midland, are the friendliest batch of folks you'd ever want to meet. Really. Salt of the earth. Great human beings.

(They gone yet?)

OK, so the problem is at one of the outlets, they have, like, well, Random Hours. Never mind what they post on the door. Which is locked. At another of the outlets, they really are wonderfully friendly. And move. Like. They. Are. Auditioning. For. The. Part. Of. A. Sloth. In. An. Animal. Planet. Feature.

Which leaves us the one that is farthest away. Sigh.

Hey, shouldn't you be working instead of reading this here blog-like thing?

As someone semi-famous in his own mind once said, you can sleep when you're dead.

Sorry I'm late, I've been at the post office. While I was there I noticed that the clocks had been removed so I wouldn't know how long I had been in line.

the clocks had been removed

Heh.

I actually noticed the same thing yesterday (although I'm pretty sure they've never had any clocks in the waiting area).
