Blast from the Past

We're 60 days from closing on the new house (theoretically) and so we're doing some packing, starting in the closets and cabinets that contain items that don't get a lot of use. We're making some interesting discoveries. To wit...

8 track tape - Black Sabbath
8 track tape - Emerson, Lake & Palmer

And, yes, we are taking them with us, along with another dozen or so.

Wow...those are 8 traks, right? Either that or games for your Atari. I coudln't tell from the titles ;)

Dangit. Beth beats me in the pithy comment wars. Again.

I don't think I would have ever have picked you as a black Sabbath fan LOL.

Never cared for Black Sabbath, but listened to ELP's Tarkus a lot. Cool relics... but no Ark of the Covenant?

Jim, nobody beats Beth when it comes to pith. She's got the fastest RSS reader in the west. Or east. Or wherever.

Rachel, I wasn't really a Sabbath fan, but you know how teenagers can be.

but listened to ELP's Tarkus a lot.

I also packed up "Pictures at an Exhibition" and "Brain Salad Surgery" (on vinyl). Some of ELP's stuff was ponderously pretentious, but enough of it rocked to make it worthwhile.

but no Ark of the Covenant?

Well, like I said, we're only cleaning out the stuff we don't use regularly. ;-)

Ooooo, Tarkus. Which reminds me that I need to head to Half Price Books to see if I can replace my water-damaged vinyl copy of Brain Salad Surgery with a used CD.

We don't miss a lot of things about living in the Metroplex, but Half Price Books is one of the things we do miss.

I can't help wondering how water damages vinyl, though. Unless it was boiling, in which case I'd really like to hear the story. ;-)

I saw these earlier and were laughing, laughing. . .

Eric, for someone who wasn't "really a Sabbath fan," you did pick one of their best albums, though.

Posted by: Jeff at January 6, 2008 07:38 AM

What? No ABBA? Gwynne will be upset.

Posted by: Janie at January 6, 2008 09:28 PM

I'd be surprised if Gwynne didn't have a little Sabbath in her past, too. ;-)

Posted by: Eric at January 6, 2008 09:33 PM

Awwww, I bet she does...who doesn't?

Posted by: Janie at January 6, 2008 10:51 PM

...but did you find a player and a match-book?

Posted by: lyle at January 7, 2008 02:13 PM

I do still have a player. But you lost me on the matchbook reference.

Posted by: Eric at January 7, 2008 03:30 PM

Sabbath & ELP in 8.... Awesome dude!!!!

Posted by: shannon at January 8, 2008 04:39 PM

You think that's cool; I didn't even mention Hendrix, and Cream, and... um... well... Streisand.

What can I say? I had a girlfriend. (Ended up marrying her, too. ;-)
